"In my understanding of thoughtful anarchism" says a liberal to an anarchist. Anarchists don't even think that people should vote!
If you want to take the moment of voting as reflecting an ability to signal choice, I think that this society should end.
Anarchists are to some extent responsible, just as you as a Canadian are responsible for destroying the world with the tar sands. But they *don't have to agree* that everyone must go along.

Was the movement worth Tortuguita's life? Movements often run off martyrs. Failed movements create martyrs that somebody does a "Working Class History" piece decades later about people being shot on their way to a movement being demolished. US history has lots of them and the people who make the Working Class History bits will never run out of material.

I don't mean that people should do nothing, but I also don't think that state governments are innately better than Trump's, and I don't think that they have any particular leverage over the Feds. They are not really an effective level at which resistance should take place.

would not work: none of the interactions are mediated by legality. some right wing youtuber would tweet about what Oregon was doing and Trump would take all Oregon money back, send troops to hang around city centers etc.

Yes, basically this. If the people living on a street don't care about trees, they don't have to have a vote.
As for "how do people defend their trees": a living neighborhood has people in it. So a woodcutter arrives and a kid says "Hey don't cut down our trees!" From that point the same processes of community defense that would handle armed marauders presumably take over if the woodcutter(s) ever escalated things to that point, but why would they?

Yes, "radical liberal" specifically means a liberal who has decided to adopt radical vibes but has not changed what they believe in any basic way. So for interest it's radlibs-as-anarchists saying people should vote or recommending government programs, radlibs-as-socialists who have no idea about anything to do with ownership or control of the means of production, etc. Because it's all based on vibes these people can be very personally nasty

Mastodon really is controlled by a single entity, people just don't want to admit it. If the Mastodon foundation and mastodon.social went away, Mastodon would no longer effectively exist.
The difference in protocols between Mastodon and Bluesky is typically presented as "my federation protocol is great, yours locks people into a silo" but I don't see how this isn't just boosterism.

Subtoot: there is a certain kind of Democratic Party partisan who always is writing something like "Why don't the Democrats understand that they should really [support the poor / help workers unionize / welcome immigrants / other worthy things ] ?" They are always fired up and completely don't understand that these are simple and popular things that everyone can think of and that the Democrats can not do because they serve the wealthy.
