I've tried being very proactive about blocking servers long before anyone on our server sees them at shit.
Even just following something like fediblock is a significant mental load. Researching servers that aren't immediately obviously bad, etc takes time. Scrolling through hate is no picnic either. (And that's when you're not their target)
I think people are going to end up using allowlists instead of blocklists if things don't improve soon. Masto mod tools are pathetic.
