Ever met a bully? The minute you actually hurt them for real, they freak out. They are cowards, and they can't handle it.
Logistically, it's extremely difficult to subjugate a population as large and heavily armed as the US. They are NOT prepared for that shit in any serious way. If every ICE raid gets met by a furious neighborhood that sends them the fuck packing, oh sure in a few places they'll try to make an example of coming down hard but they do NOT have the capacity to keep it up if enough people step up in enough places. Those 4k national guard they sent to LA had nowhere in particular to sleep, no food, and no orders. It was a sloppy half-assed publicity stunt.
The more people take every little performative show of force as a reason to meekly bow our heads and do as we're told, the better their intimidation campaign works.
NOTHING GOOD comes from backing down and standing around for it when an oppressive government comes to abduct your friends and neighbors. Isn't the main lesson from fascist takeovers of the past that people really should've resisted harder, sooner??
