For example I like the way the banners of promoted apps work in the AppStore. You can close them either by swiping down or from the left (not from the right though, for whatever reason).

The arrow is the motion and newer native apps also shrink the current view to reveal the one below. But the point of the arrow being the motion is that it isn’t tied to the screen transition. You can close a modal with it which might transition down, or you can have a classic back navigation.
