So Vite belongs to Cloudflare now. 🤔 Not sure I like that. They wouldn’t have bought it (and everything else VoidZero makes) out of pure goodwill.
Also if there’s money in build tools, maybe things got a tiny bit too complex, don’t we think? 😅

Seems like there’s some other sketchy stuff going on with them, too. Just saw a post about a pivot to “AI” and massive layoffs. 🙄
The only other tool I know that’s very visual is Framer, but to be honest, I can’t recommend them in good conscience. 😅

Hmm, I see. I guess the traditional static site generator + headless CMS isn’t a good fit for you then. 🤔 I’d guess that most visual editors have some form of CMS built in, but it usually also comes with a vendor lock-in. I saw someone mentioned WebStudio, maybe that’s something that at least wouldn’t tie you to a specific company and cause another migration?

It’s always nice reading what others are doing in this space! I went through a similar journey as you last year, event tried GoatCounter for a while, but I just hated its design. 😅
So I settled with Umami, but that turned unreasonably hard to maintain on my hosting provider of choice…so I’m currently building my own system. 🤣
Let’s see how that goes.

I’ve been quite successful with using webhooks which call a bash script on an Uberspace, nice and simple. Theoretically that should work on pretty much any VPN without much setup and it’s portable once it was configured once. Is that something you’d be interested in, or is that going too deep into the nitty gritty? 🤔

Dang, I knew upgrading to iPadOS 26 would potentially be rough, but I didn’t think it would be such a glitchy mess. 😅 It’s not even just the Liquid Glass (which certainly has its issues), but the whole system feels broken. Animations all stutter, the keyboard flies around all over the place and somehow comes in two different styles, one of which is definitely broken, switching from a Home Screen to the app drawer and back makes the folders fly around the screen…
What a mess. 😅

Just finished reading “The Lotus Empire” by Tasha Suri.
It was a bit of a drag to get through this one. The characters’ motivations felt all over the place, and the story was all too predictable.
Like many books, it had its moments, though. I liked how big and whole the world grew compared to the first book in the series, and you cannot help but get attached to some of the characters when they are with you for so long.
3/10, only finished it because I started.

I never used Raycast, but I have a feeling it has a lot more features than these two, but maybe they’re a start with a way to build your own extensions that fit your needs?

I have a textarea with some decorations overlaid on top. The decorations need to receive pointerenter and pointerleave events, but should pass anything else down to the textarea below as to not interfere with text selection and editing. 🤔

Just finished reading “The Jasmin Throne” by Tasha Suri. It took me a while to get into the book, the beginning felt a little too slow and drawn out, so much so that I thought I had reached the conclusion by the second third of the novel, after which the pace picked up dramatically and I started enjoying the journey.
It definitely was interesting to read fantasy not based in a form of medieval Europe.
6/10, curious how the journey will continue.

I haven’t really written anything down, but I’ve been using it at work and for some personal projects.
I kept the setup really simple, mostly using task lists. The workflow is basically a daily note for everything coming up during a day and project specific notes with timestamps.
There’s also a kanban-plugin that I might try out eventually, but so far, nested task lists have served me well. 😊

I love the way people are putting the books they read on their websites. Especially, if there's covers alongside the titles—but it makes me wonder if that’s legal.
If the covers are hosted with the website, technically that would be a breach of copyright, right?
But if they are linked from something like archive.org, the website makes a request to an external service without the user’s consent, which could be considered a breach of GDPR. 🤔
Does anyone know more about this?

If I ever started a cooking blog, I’d probably call it “Rob’n’Cook” to gather all the recipes out there, strip away the fluff so people could just cook them and most recipes on the internet seem “stolen” from one place or the other anyway. 🤔😅

I’m specifically mentioning generative “AI” in the post because like you outline, theoretically there’s much more to ML/AI than what the world sees and uses right now. One of my issues with generative “AI” is how it has been marketed as synonymous to all forms of ML/AI.
There definitely are good and valid use-cases and yeah, it’s one big grey zone far too vast to navigate in a single post. 😅

If you enjoy Pages, you might also like @npub1nx8…kl34 — it does something very similar, but works with any Git provider, not just GitHub. 😊
There’s a little more to configure (because it’s more powerful), but you can do so without having to write a config file, as there’s visual editors to do all of it. 😊

I’ve got an Uberspace where I’m running it. 😊 That’s pretty much as simple as it gets since they provide everything it needs (Node, a reverse proxy, a way to run and restart it automatically).
Umami requires a bit much RAM to build new versions, but running it as a two-user instance with a bunch of low-traffic sites doesn’t seem to be using a lot of resources. 😊

I’ve been wondering as well. 😅 On mobile, I’ve been able to get around it in a very specific case by preventing touchstart events at the screen edges and running my own logic, but it breaks as soon as someone swipes while momentum scrolling is going, because that prevents touchstart events from firing. 🙄
It’s also a hack and can’t be used everywhere.
As often with Safari, it’s a mess. 😒

When you open the App Store and top on one of the promoted apps that opens a view with a header image and some text. Like a full screen overlay. 🤔
I don’t think it has to feel wrong motion wise if it’s implemented right—emphasis on being implemented right. 😅

For example I like the way the banners of promoted apps work in the AppStore. You can close them either by swiping down or from the left (not from the right though, for whatever reason).
The arrow is the motion and newer native apps also shrink the current view to reveal the one below. But the point of the arrow being the motion is that it isn’t tied to the screen transition. You can close a modal with it which might transition down, or you can have a classic back navigation.

Well on Android the gesture is universal, it always works and there’s nothing devs can do about it as far as I know (in games you have to “double swipe” kind of like with the gesture bar on iOS. So you just don’t get the issues you have on iOS where it’s inconsistent between apps.
So maybe if Apple came up with a prescriptive gesture that always works and supported their motion model, it would be better. 🤔

I’m not a fan of the full screen page switching animation (the new page sliding on top of the old one), but that may be a matter of taste.
Typically, on Android, there’s just an arrow animation when swiping to go back and that simply works on both sides without causing confusion in the motion.
You’re right about first party apps limiting it to the edge, I can’t think of any either right now. But YouTube, Telegram and others don’t.

I just finished reading “Oathbringer” by Brandon Sanderson.
This third book was the first where I felt the drag of such a long series. Things just felt too drawn out, slow. There seemed to have been a strong undertone of mental illness and addiction, which in itself is nothing bad, but exhausted me at times.
To be honest, I was planning on giving this book a lower rating, but as with “Edgedancer”, the final part managed to truly grip me again.

I can’t currently use my left hand very well, so I’m doing everything with my right hand. In my Pro Max reaching over all the way to the left to swipe back is quite the stretch. I wish I could just swipe from the right edge where my thumb already rests.
This contradicts my point about it being an issue when the gesture isn’t limited to the edge because it works in my favour in this case, but again it’s not consistent. Some apps limit it, some don’t. 😅

Yeah, I’m sure it has something to do with that. But have you truly never gotten stuck and had to think twice on how to get back? It’s always frustrating when it happens to me.
I’m also not talking about abandoning working concepts, but improving what’s there not to appease Android users (who are probably more than happy to stay on Android) but to improve the experience for everyone. There might be better ways than how Android does it, but for me the current iOS state isn’t it. 😅

No, it works sometimes, but not every time. Like here while I’m writing this reply, I have to swipe down to close it, same with most apps with a tab bar, you have to use the bar to navigate. Not to mention you have to swipe up to get out of apps. It’s hugely inconsistent when coming from Android.
I know it makes sense sometimes (a bottom sheet slides over, so you slide down to close it) and with time you get used to it, but I still don’t think it’s as intuitive or ergonomic. 😅

Yeah…although in this case it’s a shame, it was such a well designed app. 😅 Like a toned down AE that worked in your browser. Like Rive, but polished and less geared towards state machines and game engines and more towards nice and simple animations for videos, the web and apps. 😊
I guess they couldn’t monetise it properly, and people rightfully think there’s too many apps like that already. 😅

So I just put down “Edgedancer” by Brandon Sanderson and to be honest, for most of the novella, I thought it mediocre. I don’t really like Lift as a character, although undeniably she’s very…pronounced. The last few pages made me think otherwise and I did enjoy reading the book in the end.
6/10, and I’m only slightly mad that I’m really craving pancakes now and don’t have any.
Excited to get back to the main series.

Just turned the last page on “Words of Radiance” by Brandon Sanderson and while this book certainly held my attention, it couldn’t quite match the quality, engagement and magic of the first book.
While the world is more established and easier to follow, I’m having an increasingly hard time keeping track of the minor characters which only show up in interludes or quick mentions.
Still, I’m excited to read on. 7/10

interesting! I’m glad you could figure it out! I think it’s because technically the ISO dates are strings and Mattrbld quotes them to be safe. 🤔 If I recall correctly otherwise some YAML parsers parse them into dates by default which is not consistent behaviour.

you can switch to a Unix-Timestamp in the date field if that’s better for you. 😊 I’ve documented each field and its options: https://mattrbld.com/docs/fields/date/
But it’s even easier if you do it from the schema editing UI right in Mattrbld.
If you disable the showTime option, it should only output the date part (so something like 2025-02-02), so if that’s what your SSG expects you could keep the ISO dates which are more readable than timestamps. 😊

I’ve read that the Dell Ultrasharp (I think it’s U4025QW, but not 100% sure anymore) is supposed to work well, I considered it when I was last looking at monitors. Quite pricey though. 😅

I’ve also been thinking of automatically compiling them into a list on my website once I get to it. 😊 I like how Mastodon / the Fediverse is flexible like that. 😊

@npub129k…luun how does the new gesture for swiping out of an article work in feeeed since that last update? 🤔
It only seems to work about one swipe in seven for me, which is a bit frustrating to be honest. 😅 Am I doing something wrong?

it feels so unengaging though, sure it has a bit more focus on design, but besides that, what makes it better than something like NetNewsWire? 🤔
I think for myself I’ve just found that I want my newsfeed to be a little more alive than a list of truncated headlines with the occasional tiny image. 😅 Even though that’s not exactly in line with the principles of traditional RSS readers. 😊

yeah maybe open-sourcing it would be a way to keep it alive when you lose your passion for it. 😊 In any case, it would be a shame to lose access to such a cool app! 😊

yeah, it’s not for people who want the “authentic” RSS experience. But doesn’t the new version of Reeder do kind of the same? 😅 I tried that as well and absolutely didn’t like it.
Funny how we have opposite experiences in that regard. 😊
feeeed has been around since 2023 and was recently updated, so for the time being I think I’m fine, but yeah who knows what happens in the long run. I guess we’ll see. 🤷
