I feel like Waterllama adds too much friction when logging drinks. A simple grid of drinks with a progress bar at the top would make it much faster. Perhaps less playful, but far better for usability.

With point releases things usually get smoothed out. They clearly had a deadline to meet so I’m pretty sure they pushed things to a next release.

personally I don’t think we have. We shouldn’t ignore actual physics while implementing motion. Because it still helps when motion design feels natural.

A sheet opening from the bottom and being dismissed by swipe from a side simply is wrong. It needs to be dismissed by swiping down.
Take a piece of paper, you move it up on your desk. Then you swipe that to the right. It doesn’t go downward right? That’s how these sheets should work as well. You swipe it down to dismiss them.

, you mean the tile that opens? That is something that happens through several apps by Apple. But I believe it’s an API that’s reserved for Apple, but I’m not sure. That interaction doesn’t work for everything though, because that means everything needs to be a tile.

What I don’t like is when I’m able to dismiss a sheet that comes from the bottom, and I’m able to dismiss it by swiping from the left. It doesn’t feel right motion wise. It’s just bad design.
Do you have an example of it? I’m having a hard time picturing this.

definitely a matter of taste. Though I do wonder, how else would you want those to transition? They give a sense of hierarchy and shows the user how to move through an app.
So an arrow randomly appears up on the screen? And there’s no motion that shows how a screen moves beforehand?
Those are poorly designed in that case. Also destroyed the possibility of adding swipe actions for things like Telegram.

Well, in that case I can understand. I don’t know how “back” would work from the right edge though. Motion-wise you would go into a different opposite direction. How do you expect swiping from the right works?
Also, I reckon this only happens in third party apps? I can’t find any first party apps allowing me to swipe from anywhere to go back.

Only sometimes, in poorly designed third party apps. It is frustrating when that happens, but that’s not on Apple though. It’s developers feeling the need they need to come up with their own system of gestures and paradigms.
I’m curious as to how it can be improved though. In first party apps and throughout the OS it already works really well if you ask me.

Why do you swipe from right to left though? The fact that iOS doesn’t do this is (most) apps is for consistency reasons I reckon. Most first party apps are limited to swiping from the edge as far as I know.
I’m not being an Apple fan-boy here. Just wondering why you need a universal back gesture. Coming from Android I do get it though. But that my argument is still; Apple shouldn’t change these things just to appease Android users.

“When coming from Android” is a key thing here I reckon. I’m used to how these gestures work because I’m iOS only. Personally I don’t miss a universal back button.
Motion design is a key-factor with these gestures and I believe iOS is doing a great job with it. They shouldn’t change such paradigms just to appease Android users

it works after I set it up anew. I removed all keyboard and only have Dutch/English now. The globe has been replaced with the emoji button.
I’ve never had the issue on iOS 17 or 16 actually. But then again, I’ve never used more than Dutch and English. I believe it designed to only work with 2 languages pre-iOS 18 as well though.

Not liking the way the multilingual keyboard works on iOS 18. It keeps autocorrecting English words to Dutch 😅
