There are great places all over the PNW. I couldn't afford Portland, which is still absurdly expensive, even with plenty of old houses from the turn of the last century. I'm tempted to move at times, but here I am. If you do this, get a local realtor to help you, even if you plan to rent. The land up here is varied, and some is pretty, but not very safe.
