My counter to it is that I don't like the thing that's being sold, so I don't buy the thing that is being sold. Porn is bad in general, sure. So I don't consume it.

I used to hold this view, but I think it has societally ill effects. It’s somewhat like saying that heroin is bad but by refraining from using it yourself, it’s fine. This just leads to people lying about in the streets drooling on the floor, or breaking into homes to fund it.

> But being governed by a marriage of corporate overreach and government overreach is not a good thing.

I think realistically, the thing here is that it’s just being executed extremely poorly. Much like the war on drugs, the true issue is with the supply and not the consumption. The consumption is more akin to a disease, still not good to have around, but not entirely the conscious fault of the afflicted usually. The best way to deal with this would be to not use payment processors and instead deal with the producers. This kind of thing just drives them underground.

> They'll come for your space next. That's the problem. They go for the disliked things first as a testbed to see what they can get away with, and then when they see they get no significant pushback and see the what the barometer reads, they go for other stuff too.

They came after my space decades ago. People act as if I’m the one who will be caught out next due to this when it’s I who was initially limited, while such people got away with societally damaging behavior.

Regulations on business, restrictions on land use, the curtailing of aristocratic privileges, the equality laws that mean insurers can’t target the ones actually causing problems, the loss of Empire and autarky, the restriction of firearms (due to the actions of a known sex offender), the increasing of taxes. Many, many more things as well.

This is a big part of what annoys me. People acting as if some private companies finally going after a societal ill is the first step rather than being one of hundreds of steps, and one that ultimately they should have taken in the very first place.
