I'm not sure that's a good read on our problems. Harper's electoral success with the CPC was from abandoning the strategy of mimicking the Liberals; Trudeau's, likewise, was from abandoning a lot of mimicry of the old PCs.

And provincially, we've seen Liberals sticking to that same old strategy get wiped out, and a rise of polarized conservative / (NDP or green) races.
