By "a big tent in the middle of the lowest common denominator" - an admittedly awkward phrase - I meant that the 1st and most likely 2nd choice parties are the only real electoral contenders and thus increasingly mimic each other in their policies & public image in their bid to attract each others' members to the point of utter inaction on really big issues like income disparity and climate change mitigation.
