I also bookmarked this for future reference.

One thing stands out to me. I think it's time to retire the faulty truism "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

It sounds cool until you realize that 1) it's an amoral transactional tactic, not a strategy, and 2) if they weren't friends before, they are unlikely to remain so, once the 'common enemy' has been defeated. Cuz now, the weakest 'friend' stands alone—at the mercy of the strongest "new best friend".
