Fedi's lack of growth comes down to the cumulative effect of the points highlighted in this thread has on existing, new and potential users. For the platform to be sustainable in the long-term, we need to reduce the amount of artificial social complexity introduced. This means to alleviate inconsistent community rules, and recognize that a majority of people's opinions will fall somewhere in the middle of a bell curve, which may not fully align with our own ideals.
Engaging with people you disagree with is an important and healthy part of human socialization, and it is required for collaboration.
Alternatively, the platform will continue on its trajectory of [fractionalization](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fractionalize ) and restrictive speech until a general audience will no longer be able to integrate.
