Wikipedia sucks to contribute to if you're a newcomer. I gave up contributing to Wikipedia a long time ago because I tried to correct a typo and some editor who had apparently never come across the word 'assess' before thought I was writing 'asses' and defacing the page, so I got a timeout.
Maybe it's gotten better since then, but that incident killed any interest I had in contributing, and most of my interest in reading it
