We need to tax the rich for their own good. This money thing is frying their brains in concerning ways.
I just read the "Tech-Optimist Manifesto" and it reads like Dada. And if you try to take this thing seriously it will just cook your brain, because reality doesn't work like that. It's a "let them eat cake" moment - only Horowitz actually said it.

It's not missing the point, it's exactly the point. All those people keeping Wikipedia and the other projects alive are doing this in their free time. And in the hundreds to thousands of judgments they make on keeping or reverting an edit they review, they may make mistakes. And that also needs to be ok. It's just people on the other side, keep that in mind in community projects rather than holding a year long grudge.

The bigger problem that Wiki had had for years now, is the lack of new contributors. That is in part due to people visiting the site less, but reader growth and contributor growth have never quite correlated - which is also normal as a project is more widely used. We see this everywhere in open source too.
PS: I used to work work for Wikimedia DEs volunteer support a few years back, and still know and follow the folks I know from that time, who are some of the most active users

I would disagree with that assessment. That enterprise API has been in the works for a long time - and is a good way for Wikimedia to monetise for business users, rather than relying on their donations. The content was free to use already, due to the licensing that Wikimedia uses.

We do actually, have ideas. There's modeling looking at the climate path we are currently on (RCP4.5) and the influx of fresh water on the Amoc. And looked into European climate developing under those conditions. They modelled a scenario with amoc collapse and one with a new weakened state. With the collapsed Amoc Icelanders will be able to walk to England in winter essentially. In summer we will still see considerably higher temps than now - think Canada weather.

Hm! I wasn't aware that swallows would nest that low, which is why I've not added any nesting boxes to our garden for them yet. But then again they are also not building nest there. (It's an allotment, so mostly undisturbed)

Für richtig viel Wasser sparen: kahlen Boden mit 10-20cm Mulch bedecken - dann bleibt das Wasser gleich im Boden. Also Mulch taugt alles mögliche organische Material: gehäckselster Grünschnitt, Laub, Rasenschnitt, Stroh, etc
Das verbessert auch insgesamt den Boden und schützt im Winter Pflanzen effektiv vor Frost.
Außerdem den Rasen möglichst nicht kürzer als 10cm schneiden. Boden bei kurzem Rasen heizt sich im Sommer schnell auf 50C auf und Wasser verdunstet schnell.

This year I am growing #rhubarb from seed again. (I did it once before I had my own garden.) These little guys just all got more space to grow. Depending on how they develop I will #plant them out in October or March. I will use them as dividers between different #garden zones as mini "hedges". So they will have space to grow and also help control the spreading of weedy #plants from one area to the next.

Yes, that makes sense. I've also noticed that it rarely freezes under mulch. Are the beans able to push through the mulch layer by themselves? I already planned potatoes for autumn, but beans would also be a nice add for winter and especially with the nitrogen fixing might be a nice companion for the strawberries and others.

Spending time #reading about the change I want to see triggered by the #ClimateCrisis. I do believe we have a chance of creating a better world out of #ClimateChange if we put our minds to it and dedicate our resources there. Still in the first part, currently discussing the crisis we have been able to tackle successfully and world wide.
This is an enjoyable #read.
