Why do you swipe from right to left though? The fact that iOS doesn’t do this is (most) apps is for consistency reasons I reckon. Most first party apps are limited to swiping from the edge as far as I know.

I’m not being an Apple fan-boy here. Just wondering why you need a universal back gesture. Coming from Android I do get it though. But that my argument is still; Apple shouldn’t change these things just to appease Android users.
