What I am doing is not a feature implemented by any client, it is what I would define as "low hanging fruit" in that I think it is insane that nobody has done it yet. Like how a million printers sat unfiltered on the public Internet for years until I was the first person to think of printing to them all at the same time. I want the debut of this implemented in a very specific way by a small team, because I believe that my vision and associated social understanding is far more comprehensive, but I believe that afterwards many people will adopt the features I am proposing, and it will greatly advance Nostr adoption by orders of magnitude.
I assure you that new software needs to be written. If I say I am doing something you can rest assured that it is something completely new that nobody has thought of before and likely would sit undone for decades even though it is trivial to accomplish because nobody would ever comprehend to do it until they saw how fucking funny it was after it was already done.
Every once in a while I check out Amethyst desktop to see if it's good enough on Mac yet. It's pretty fucking good, and I think potentially my Nostr daily driver from here on out. I think, given that it is now not only one of the most useful clients, but the one now available on the largest plethora of platforms, that I am going to refer people to it first and foremost, unless they want to use a browser client, in which case I always tell people to use Ditto.
Nostur is great on the iPhone but has some problems on Mac desktop. I am glad Amethyst is here with a well thought out desktop build these days.

In action this kind of mirrors the logic of a failed short squeeze. It’s like Silver Thursday, where the Hunt brothers cornered the market on silver. Lots of people became committed of adding just enough hashpower to fuck over the Russian mining position and make it too costly. They were paying for an obscene amount of compute because they thought there was money to be made double spending XMR. It turned out that there was a lot more hidden depth to Monero’s chain security than they thought. Zero double spends. They spent a whole fucking lot, down to their very reputations, and got no return. If anyone else wants to try in their place, they can put their chips on the table. They’ll end up like the Hunt brothers. I guarantee it.
I mined on my dev/staging/prod machines, which would normally not have any extra software. I mined on machines I owned that it was unprofitable to mine on. I popped as many machines as I could find in adversarial countries to mine on.

I am also an advocate for split-PoW mining, like Tari has (they have three mining algorithms that rewards are split between — one is merge mined with the main Monero chain, the second is ASIC friendly, and the third is optimized for GPUs). Each gets a segment of block space and rewards, to make reorgs harder and discourage extortion via selfish mining.
I don’t like proof of stake as the primary consensus mechanism, but I also think intermittent proof of stake every n blocks with a diminished mining reward is also a nice potential validation mechanism to make reorgs harder.
Monero endured a sustained 51% attack pretty recently with no double spends. People came out of the woodwork to provide hash power from various sources, myself included. This is our future. Anyways, Monero has become that much better, easier, more convenient implementation of Bitcoin. If it becomes less easy and convenient I will just switch to another currency that is not captured by Blackrock and Saylor types and turned into permanent financial spyware as Bitcoin has been. This is what makes Monero so decentralized because literally anybody with access to a CPU can mine Monero on the hardware they already have. You don't need permission from anybody to either obtain the currency from an exchange or to buy the mining equipment to mine it.

Even though the firmware is closed source, that colmi ring does look pretty nice. If it works with gadget bridge on Android, that is really great. However, in the future I do intend to switch to a phone running #NuraEco (formerly PostMarketOS) so I wonder if there's a way to use it on that as well. Because if I'm understanding correctly at least, Gadget Bridge is an Android app.
The main reasons for not wanting a smartwatch for me is, first of all, that it has another screen that, since I am blind, I cannot really see, and they are thick little bastards, and without having a screen, the battery life would last longer.
In my previous life, before I cared so much about using open source as much as possible, I did try a smartwatch and was rather unimpressed and didn't end up keeping it around. That would have been back in something like the 2017 timeframe.
I also had a Fitbit tracker that was touch sensitive but did not have a screen on it and so when you touched it a number of lights would light up to show you what the battery level was and that's the only thing you could see from the device itself and that was fine.

If it was some sort of wristband that sat flush against my skin, I would be okay with that as well. But I know that smartwatches don't work for me because they're bulky and I don't want to wear them when I sleep.

Fair point and that's what 0.17 changed: a personal watcher runs on your own machine, so the view key never leaves you and since 0.18 amounts stay private too. The tx-proof route is interesting: no view key at all. The blocker is wallets: none hands txid + tx key back to the app yet, so senders would copy them by hand. If wallets add a callback URI, I'd gladly support it.
