and indeed, migrations were one of the biggest pains in the ass while working on userspace/"apps".
i got me a groundwire comet a couple weeks back but everything was kind of broken and confusing. i think the groundwire network is a kelvin ahead of the rest of the network or something.
either way, long-term, they're my greatest hope for urbit. permissionless identities, bitcoin intsead of ethereum, shipping nostr on day one.
..it might just be urbit's newest in a string of "try to be the cool kid" move, but at least this stuff is open and permissionless.
why not just do what you're saying, but make it nostr-shaped, so it has a chance at being earth-compatible? if a given star has some mars/earth nostr translator, it's like a portal - either one-way or bidirectional. if not, it just stays on mars

there are a handful of ridiculous things that if urbit would just shed it would have a decent shot. i think they're more interested in cults, though.

alright i'm finally installing the PWA!

was one me? i bet one was me.
you can use the claude api (pricey).
but i've heard about routing openclaw through claude code - https://github.com/StoicEnso/openclaw-claude-delegate - haven't tried it myself
suggestion: a "me too" interaction. what if 50 other people also want beef at my price? do they post 50 separate listings..?
not being a dumbass is so hard, though
Yea, no thanks. A good chef's knife with proper grip and technique is safer, faster, more fun, and easier to clean 👍
lol sorry to hear about your fingers
I posted one

really good for self defense, too. check out the emerson wave pocket draw ones
lolol i forgot you get me with that damn zoom every time
i like karambits, personally
playing it through a PA for now, i like things loud :)
it's a pd - Pure Data - thing. (this is my first experience wth pd. all vibed).
synthesized noise and notes + effects with various parameters that get modified by the triggered actions. for instance: "whack the tom that has the trigger for the 'delay' effect = each hit notches up the delay effect stack by x% amount" and then it steadily decays back to baseline.
there's a hi hat pedal that i can use to adjust the tempo of the drunk walk notes being generated. and an expression pedal that sets the pitch. some other things..
it seems like i should record a video tour of this and open source the code and electronics schematics! ... damn maybe i should sell a pre-built version 😆
it's true, i can appeal to the comedy crowd along with the music crowd 😆
Same here in Australia. Just got 2gbps down and 500mbs up and it’s not exactly cheap. 25gbps?! That’d be insane. My router could support it though, but not sure about my wallet lol.

The impetus was that drums on their own are "boring", a solo player alone in a room (practice or just goofing around). But I refuse to play an electronic kit and I refuse to twiddle knobs and play keyboards when I'm supposed to be drumming. I wanted something that allowed me to ONLY play the drums while still creating dynamic sounds as if someone else was playing another instrument in the room with me. I had this very well-designed in my head, but I couldn't make it a reality until now with AI assistance.
i'm only playing acoustic drums. peizo sensors pick up the signal and it enters a bunch of code that eventually results in noise. it's all controlled rhythmically - For instance, if you hit the drum that has the chaos trigger on it, at the same tempo as the current base tempo, It tends to keep the chaos level steady. If you play it twice as fast, it raises the chaos. Otherwise, the chaos decays back to baseline. So if you play slower than the global tempo, not much happens, but if you play faster than the base tempo, things start to ramp up and get wild. Since all the controls are dynamic like this, it just naturally responds to your playstyle in the moment.
it's just so much better. some other ex-city people try to hit me with the "oh don't you miss it?! i miss it!" and i realize we are not at all the same
There were a few real boring lulls in Change Agent, but awesome story and concept and overall a great book.
:D the little $0.15 peizos i prototyped it with are super delicate and everything is hanging together with electrical tape, alligator clips and breadboards. Once I firm everything up into enclosures and can play more than a few minutes without shit disconnecting and falling over, I will record a little demo! ❤
In time! I basically turned this drum kit into an entirely new and novel instrument, and now i have to "learn it". i was out of practice anyway, and now it's like an entirely new world. really fun.
The nutshell explanation: there's a kind of generative synth playing random walks + a variable amount of distortion. playing different parts of the kit in different ways pushes the "character" of the noise in different directions - but it's all triggered from actual acoustic playing, no knob-fiddling and silent button pushing bullshit. Directly controllable are:
- "Chaos level" - randomness of the scales, intensity of distortion, etc. this decays slowly back to baseline, so you can spike it up and let it drop or kind of keep nudging it along at a level
- standard reverb and delay
- tempo of the overall notes generated (on the hi hat pedal)
- pitch range of the notes generated (on another pedal), from high down to obscene rumbling bass
There are some other nuances, but that's the main idea. A living, surprising noisy partner that responds to the way the drummer is playing. designed for solo drumming when being the only musician in the room is otherwise boring as fuck
Claude enabled me to get an idea for an elaborate acoustic-drum-triggered noise machine out of my head and into electronics, firmware and software. i've been dreaming of this custom device for years, but the amount of knowledge i'd have needed in areas i didn't care to develop it was a hurdle.
this month i was able to build an extremely satisfying prototype of it, thanks to agentic ai.
programmers and apps is just the beginning. wait until artists and musicians realize they can probe legitimately new frontiers.
