但真正值得玩味的，是年龄带来的巨大差异：
• 30～39 岁继承：可投资资产中位数增长 66%
• 60～69 岁继承：增长 20%
• 70～79 岁继承：只剩 16%
换句话说，很多父母是在孩子本身已经接近人生财富高峰的时候，才把钱交到他手上。钱还是那笔钱，但它能撬动的人生可能性，已经所剩无几。Vanguard 因此直接提出：对部分家庭而言，生前赠与（lifetime giving）可能产生比身后继承更大的效用。
更有意思的是心理层面。50% 的继承者表示收到遗产后财务安心感提升；而事先与父母谈过遗产安排的人、以及寻求专业顾问协助的人，财务安心程度又明显更高。可现实是，只有约 54% 的家庭曾事先谈过遗产这件事。
所以，inheritance 这个概念，值得被重新定义——
从"死后怎么分财产"，
转向"什么时候把资源交给下一代，效用最大"。
毕竟，孩子 30 岁正缺一套房来安稳养育下一代，你却打算等他 70 岁、都当上爷爷了再把房子留给他？你以为可以世代传承的财产，实际上可能让连续两代人，都没能被这笔珍贵的资源真正照顾到。
