There was an art movement where artists would look into a black mirror and paint what they saw there. So, an artist would be out in the countryside, facing away from the subject of their painting, while working on their canvas. They were called a Claude Glass after a 17th-century painter named Claude Lorrain, who had a picturesque painting style that looked similar to what you might see reflected in a dark mirror. 1/
