Swatched my birthday #fountainpen inks last night! It’s a tie between Emotional Olive and Grapefruit for favorite color, while Hotaru-Bi is probably my least but only because I’m not sure how legible it’ll be. Definitely needs a medium or broad nib.

I don’t generally like pocket pens, there’s just something about them I don’t like, despite trying several different ones, but the Jinhao 82 pocket #fountainpen is an odd delight. Maybe it’s its fude nib? Or maybe it’s because it’s cheap and I don’t really care about it getting scuffed from posting? I don’t know. But I like it.

a lot of marketing really leans hard into triggering FOMO with limited editions and exclusive runs. There’s also the “new product everyone is reviewing/talking about/showing off” thing that can really influence a person.
Start by unsubscribing to newsletters. Don’t follow pen shops on socials unless you’re in the market to buy something. Keep yourself to a budget (don’t be so strict you resent yourself, but hold yourself accountable too). Shop what you already have.

After much deliberation, 2025 is the year of the Franklin-Christoph 03 Italian Ice with an EF S.I.G nib #fountainpen and Diamine Cardinal!
Incredibly thankful for Hobonichi’s exchange on the A5 5-year journals as the first one was unusable and this one is fantastic. Everything I would expect from Tomoe River paper.
I hope I find whatever it is I’m looking for this year!

Got the shipping notification for my new A5 5-Year Hobonichi! As frustrated and dismayed as I was with the first book I received, I've seen very promising results from the replacement books and I'm excited to use my #fountainpens in it.
Now I have to decide what pen and ink combo to use for 2025...

But I finally got a chance to respond to my great aunt via letter. Diamine Celebration and a Sailor Hocoro Fude on some Airmail paper. So crinkly, so good. Also my fingers are covered in ink on my writing hand. It’s very obvious how I hold my pens, with a blazing pink/orange/shimmer ring finger, middle finger, and thumb. #fountainpenink

True, the 5 year journals suffer the most. I can’t say I have been impressed by Sanzen paper in general tho. It does well, but I personally feel that Sazen continuing to market it as Tomoe River paper, which was long noted for its excellence, is confusing because it is not equal to the original paper. Unfortunately, Tomoe River has gone through so many changes at this point the name feels like a gimmick than something you can have expected results from. That’s just me

It sucks! I have a 2020-24 5-year I'm finishing off and the difference between the two and how they handle ink is insane. I'm so disappointed and a bit, "now what" because this is the ONLY 5-year journal with this kind of format (2 pages per day). I do think them saying the paper "meets their standards" is a bit garbage. But I know this is Sanzen's fault and not Hobonichi. It shouldn't even be called tomoe river paper. It should just be sanzen paper.

While Midori is really nice, I have some of their notebooks, I really do want to have the dates on the left hand side, and the right hand to be free for adding in various ephemera. This is why this search sucks. I haven't been able to find anything that is the same. I'd stick with the Hobonichi, but I really don't like how much space the quotes take up on the right hand side of the spread.
