The migration process is pretty easy, although there are some glaring holes (like I wish you could import followed hashtags). It is a bit technical to export and import CSV files, but not too bad. I moved a few years ago between SDF servers, and it worked pretty well. However, I doubt that if my old account is in a list of yours, like Accounts Who Talk Too Much About Hockey or Accounts in the Salt Mine, it will make the move too. Anyone know? [@FediTips](https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips ), maybe?

I get random but persistent 500 errors on the web and my @npub1cnh…wtw0 hasn't been able to load the home timeline for about a week. It can do Mentions fine. I think social is better provisioned and fewer users than the mastodon.sdf.org but I'm not sure

Just the usual planned for #today - #walkies and date night at the Chinese restaurant. I think it is supposed to be cold and blustery, but I owe the #dogs a walk. I've been too busy so far this week. Obi may still need a splenectomy because the mass on his spleen grew, but just a little bit. A pretty expensive procedure. We'll revisit it in 3 months. He seems fine - still energetic, eating and sleeping well, so his quality of life is good.

Our #cocktail of the evening was a Clover Leaf:
+ 1/2 ounce Chambord liqueur or Pomegranate Grenadine
+ 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
+ 1 ounce pasteurized egg whites or 1/2 ounce half-and-half
+ 1–1 1/2 ounces gin
Garnish: fresh mint leaf
We used Chambord, of course, and half-and-half. I can't say I was enamored with it. Maybe it would be better with egg whites. The Treehouse IPA was good, not great, which means it was better than 95% of the IPAs out there right now.

Morning Mastodonians!
We had a good session at Helldivers last night, and I think we may be finally figuring the game out. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a self-contained story. The "universe" keeps regenerating, so it isn't really our style. We aren't looking for a lifestyle game—just something to play through. So, I'm not sure how much longer we'll play it. We don't really have anything else up next, so there's no rush.

This morning, I got a lot done in the office, which is a change. Now that I'm home, I have some really focused work to do. I do have my weekly one-on-one with my boss, but that should go fast. He's been away for a week, so I'm sure he's swamped with work. I try to jot down ideas to talk about, but I haven't been doing a great job at it.

I guess I'll slowly edge my way into the #SaltMine. It should be fine because I have some obvious and functional bits to add to the code, but even then, I am not feeling it. My boss will be back from vacation, so we'll have to see what he says about last week's production. The end result is pretty good, but it took way too long to get there. My laziness and unfamiliarity with gRPC made my code output pretty meager.

My arthritic right thumb has been seriously bothering me lately. Combined with my arthritic left index finger, it's really embarrassing to have to hand off jar-opening chores to the boyfriends or, even worse, my daughters! I was always jealous of my dad's strong hands. Even at my best, they were no match for his. Otherwise, my normal physical ailments have been quiet. My knees have been working well. Maybe the daily magnesium glycinate capsules help, or maybe it's just psychological.

Luckily, #today looks to be pretty quiet. I'll spend plenty of time cleaning up (one of the perils of working from home). I would dearly love to play the first two tutorial missions in #Bardsung, but I'm not sure I'll have the time or energy, as it should be an early night because the alarm goes off at 4:20 am on Tuesdays. It should be good weather for #walkies. The dogs were kind of annoying yesterday, but eventually, they calmed down.

Yesterday was so full of domestic bliss it could make you sick! 😹 My daughters, their boyfriends, and another friend were over to watch some football. My wife cooked up a storm with all kinds of goodies, from beef Bolognese to buffalo chicken dip. Many #cocktails were mixed (mimosas and mudslides were favorites), cans of Treehouse IPAs were consumed, and much hilarity ensued. We even had a fire in the fireplace. Games were also played. It was a great, if exhausting, day.

I did manage to close out the Merge Request I was working on in the #SaltMine, but it was still a meager output for an entire week of work. I did figure out some new things in the code, but I still should have done much better. It will be a full regular week next week, so I need to really buckle down and get things done.

I really enjoyed The Fall Guy last night. It certainly wasn't deep or emotionally taunt, which was just fine by me. Gosling and Blount were fantastic leads, the soundtrack kicked ass, and there were even some great dog stunts. As for books, I'm enjoying the #audiobook of The Blighted Stars, and I'm about halfway through The Last Shield, which isn't bad. I am anxious to get to The World in Books: 52 Works of Great Short Nonfiction by Kenneth C. Davis. I already got Gilgamesh because of it!

I have a pretty busy day planned #today, which sucks. We're trying to get through a quick housecleaning, some shopping, and then off to the company holiday party at the #Boston Museum of Science. We have our company holiday party at the #Boston Museum of Science on Saturday night, which should be fun. It's a little dress-up ("cocktail attire"), but it should be fun. I'm sure I have a dusty sports jacket somewhere I can throw on. Then I will see Porridge Radio in the city on Sunday night. I hope it is better than my Betty Who concert last month. What a disaster. But that's an awful lot for me to deal with!

But in many ways, that has mirrored my feelings for the week in general. There were a few high points, but I mostly dragged along during a cold, gray January week. And there isn't much planned for #today. With a busy weekend (again!) coming up, I didn't even change into real pants when I got home. I just stayed in my sweatpants, and I plan on keeping it that way. I doubt I will even take the #dogs for #walkies. I need a vacation. Sometimes, just planning one helps.

That sure was a week to forget between the pipes. After getting soundly whipped on Tuesday morning, we lost again this morning, 6-4. I thought we had the better team, but we had some defensive lapses, and I wasn't sharp, which led to our downfall. The first goal was tipped in by my defenseman in front of me, and the rest were just goal-mouth scrambles I couldn't cover up. I definitely should have been better, which sucks.

I enjoy writing a bit in #C++ and a bit in #Python, even if I am a base beginning in Python. Someone is waiting for my changes too, so I really need to get'er done.

My road rant for today is about pedestrians—the ones who press the Walk button and then blithely jaywalk, making us all wait for a non-existent crosser. In Massachusetts, 90%+ of all intersections are No Turn On Red, so we are just stuck. One or the other, folks. One or the other. It's especially annoying when they hold up traffic while they jaywalk. Sometimes, they are so far down the road that when the Walk light comes on, you can't even see them. Like the jogger who did it this morning.

I drove my wife to work this morning and, darn it, forgot to put my #PlanetFitness bag together. It needs to be a regular thing when I drive her. My penance will be to force myself to take the #dogs for #walkies despite the cold, snow, and salt. Not much else is planned for #today. We'll go to the library and maybe the car wash, and then we'll have our usual Thursday night scorpion bowl at the local Chinese restaurant.

I had a pretty good evening yesterday. M came over, and I made him one of my gin & sonics:
+ crush 1/4 lime in a tall Collins glass with a muddler
+ 1 big ice cube
+ 150ml can of Fever Tree Light Tonic
+ 150ml seltzer
+ Top with Beefeater gin
Then we had a nice Treehouse IPA (Jjjjuliussss) while playing Helldivers in 4 Guys Co-op. We may actually be figuring it out. Friendly Fire is the funniest game option. Our fatal mishaps were legendary and hilarious.

I also got my wife mad at me when I said I didn't want to hear it when she showed me a video of a snarky comment by Obama to T***p. She said, "But it's Obama!" She's mad at me a lot lately... I said that I still didn't want to see it. It's so horrible to just think about what is going on. I get the shakes, and I'm so upset. My wife was unhappy with me #today - I made her drive herself to work despite the bitter cold (-7°F / -21.67°C "feels like"!). I like my long Wednesday with just me, the dogs, cats, hamster, gecko, and snake, and no commute. It's only a block walk to her office. She's a hardy New Englander! That said, I don't think the #dogs will get #walkies - too cold! 😹 M will come over later, and we'll have a cocktail and play some 4 Guys Co-op with Helldivers. See if we can figure it out!

There isn't much else planned for #today. The ladies have the day off (Martin Luther King Day), but I don't think it is worth taking one of my floating holidays. Once it cooled down last night, we had about 2-3 inches of pretty light, fluffy stuff. It started coming down pretty wet, which meant the cars were encased in ice, of course. I just finished shoveling and cleaning the cars off. I wish I could have gotten one of them in the garage. The bitter cold has already set in. I'm huddling over my warm cup of java right now, trying to thaw out my hands. The poor doggies are not going to get their #walkies today, I'm afraid.

I should take the #doggies for #walkies this afternoon because it will get incredibly cold here in the #Boston area this week. I've seen predicted lows down around 1ºF / -17.22ºC, which is crazy cold here. The rain yesterday finally got rid of the snow from a couple of weeks ago, but tonight's snow will certainly be hanging around. The dogs don't mind the cold (the salt on the road is another story), but I'm getting wimpy in my old age. I'd rather stay inside and just crank the heat!

Not much planned for #today. We ordered groceries to be delivered to avoid the certain crowds at the grocery store due to the predicted 6 to 8 inches of snow. Of course, we've had this before, and nothing has come of it. We have plenty of housecleaning to do. Still trying to recover from the holidays. I have 2 adorable foster #kitties awaiting pick up. We had a nice day with Pam and Mark yesterday. We met them at a local chow house, world-renowned for its steak tips. I'm not a fan, honestly, but the other 3 are. I like their chicken parm just fine. Then, over to the Great American Beer Hall, which was loud and busy for a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon. They are as depressed about #uspol as we are, so we got to moan about that plenty. But it was too rainy for our usual martinis by the firepit. Doesn't happen too often.

For #caturday, it's a typical Saturday morning with Tinker (the big black cat) and Nemo (the one-eyed buff cat)—the best part of my week. Nemo has a great purr - strong and loud. It's a very stereotypical purr. Tinker’s is a very quiet but contented purr.

Ah yes, the price of the car. Who the fuck knows, if I may be blunt. For the first time, I went Lease, because I was unsure of the technology. After almost 6 hours In the showroom, pitting Kia v Nissan, we came away with $399 / month for 3 years, 10k miles/year, nothing down. The 2025 #EV6 qualifies for the $7,500 rebate now. And I got $2,500 from Mass, even though it's a lease. It was a terrible experience. My wife had murder in her eyes by the end. That might have sealed it!

do you mean the home charging? About $1,000 but there are plenty of incentives out there. Ford says they'll buy it and install it. Chevy will rebate the cost of the charger. NGrid, my electric provider, refunded the cost of installation

I want to sing the praises of #EV life once again. The simple joy of waking up every morning to a full tank, done overnight for a few bucks, is hard to overstate. I am not much of a "car guy," but I love driving my #Kia #EV6. The #EV6 is a joy to drive, with excellent handling and great acceleration even in Eco mode. Put it into Sport mode, and the takeoff is breathtaking. Save for some minor "skittering" when the road is a little rough, it is a perfect car to drive.

Do you like our new deck? The deck itself is nearly done (only a couple railings left to finish) but there's lots of surrounding work left, like siding, landscaping, doors, etc. Doubt it'll be finished before the snow flies unfortunately.

oh, it's great. It won Best Picture in 2022 and I still love it. And I promise it's not just because it is set and filmy here in Massachusetts (her deaf father owns a fishing boat in Gloucester) 😺

it's about a Child Of Deaf Adults trying to manage her last year in high school. Not usually a "coming of age" movie person, but this movie killed me. So wonderfully done and acted. The amazing Marlee Matlin is one of the stars. One of my favorite movies from the last few years.

Morning Mastodonians!
We have had 3 long (and expensive!) trips to the local vet hospital for Obi since Sunday and we are no closer to figuring out what is wrong with our Plott Hound mix. He's had a weird cough and hasn't been eating but despite even a cancer scare, we don't know what is causing it. It may even been multiple things going on. We are trying to give him 5 different medications, for his lung, his heart and his upset stomach, but nothing has taken effect yet. We'll keep trying.

It's a long chance I know, but is anyone interested in a pair of (expensive!) tickets to see #TaylorSwift Tuesday night at Wembley Stadium? Due to her friend's last second passport snafu. @npub1m69…jwz3 and her friend won't be making it to #London for the week 😨 I feel so bad for the kid. It would help a little of she could recoup at least some money for the tickets. Please boost for more visibility!

A real interesting article about the need for more Level 2 chargers, disputing the call for more fast chargers. And to stop thinking of chargers as "gas stations" and get more of them in "long dwell time" places like libraries and grocery stores, so you can just charge while you're there. Which would be more than enough for most people. Just a different mindset. I was so excited to get a plug for my #EV6 at a parking garage in Boston the other day.

Morning Mastodonians!
The weather has been well-nigh perfect here in New England. It has been great to sleep without the AC blasting away, although my daughters still insist on having theirs on low. Not quite a harbinger of fall, as the high temps have been in the mid-80s (around 29ºC) but darned close, which is great. The dogs and I had a nice long walk in the Fells yesterday and I am looking forward to a few more before the week ends.
