I guess the starling misses a critical skills of the pidgeons in said RFCs: Wayfinding.
Without this, it's more of a (stochastic) broadcast scenario: The data gets distributed to wherever the birds like to fly. I would also not count on privacy.

Maybe uninformed question for those of us not running hardware permanently themselves (i.e., using laptops):
How long does it take for a newly connected node to become net-positive for the swarm (contribute more than it takes)? And can it keep state over subsequent runs?

Far shot, but I once read an article on how to transform a single file #Python script into a "serious" Python application (not only with modules, but also defined dependencies, build and deployment process, and so on).
With today's search engines I can't find it any more, the search terms are pretty generic.
Do you have any idea? I'm not interested in generating one with an IDE, I'd like to understand what's happening in the process.
