While I like the idea of a nationwide strike, I think it would be tough to organize and pull off because there isn’t just one union representing every teacher in the country. There are a lot of state and local unions at play. My local union secured nuts-and-bolts things like 8-hour work days, annual cost-of-living peanut raises (😉), health and dental insurance, limits on class sizes and the number of classes we taught, duty-free lunches, and more. I never felt connected to a national teachers’ union, though, and am not really sure what they actually do.

The best potato I ever had was back in the late 1990s when I did Ride the Rockies bicycle tour across Colorado. The rest stop at the top of Wolf Creek Pass (elevation: 11,000 feet, 3300 meters) served fresh, hot, baked potatoes from the nearby San Luis Valley to all the cyclists. It was heavenly! 🥔🚴🏽‍♂️⛰️
