Oh my god my neighbor just told me he kicked his wife out, after 40 years together, because she gave $10k to a Nigerian Prince scammer and she won't admit she was scammed and he's afraid she won't stop until they lose their house 😯

Is it even possible to live in stable housing and Not accumulate mountains of unneeded possessions? Refused to sign my doctor's office #PrivacyPolicy, because it's said something about advertising that I wasn't comfortable with. The receptionist of course looked at me like I was talking crazy, and suggested that if I didn't sign they can do whatever they want with my information. 🤔

I have a close relative who is very attached to a big gift unwrapping ritual during our holiday gathering, as if we're all children eager to see what Santa got us. When I suggest we make a family donation to a good cause instead of shopping from each other's wishlists, she makes faces.

We don't see family very much, so on a day when most of those employed have the day off, it's nice to get together. My brother in law likes to cook (so I rarely have much to do), and my mom appreciates traditional celebrations, so we do it for them. As we've lost people over the years our gatherings have gotten smaller, so it feels important to do it while we still can.

For (reasons) I've been looking into the correlation between aging and hoarding. There's a lot of material on clinical hoarding behavior and extreme clutter leading to unhealthy outcomes. But very little about how older people just might not have the energy & capacity to clean house & manage their stuff.
In such a materially rich society, where consumer goods are relatively cheap & packaging is extreme, it's so easy to accumulate. Managing household waste can be an energy intensive job.
