Looking at the 00Z sounding from Fairbanks, the top of Denali is approximately 20F warmer than Umiat.

Not likely. The coldest temps should be in the valleys.

So you are not counting the July 25th "snow"? 😀

🔥🔥 September 2024 was a very warm month in the Contiguous U.S. According to the Prism dataset, it was the warmest September for large areas of the western and north central U.S. and for the southern half of Florida. Overall, Prism has this as the 2nd warmest September (1998). @npub1ygf…tutr

September was a month precipitation extremes. Catastrophic flooding in parts of the Southeast, and exceptional dryness in the northern Plains and Great Lakes. This map show the September ranking from wettest to driest since 1895 using Prism climate data. @npub1ygf…tutr

🔥🔥🔥 BREAKING: The Global temperature in August 2024 tied with August 2023 for the warmest for any August on record according to ERA5 Reanalysis. Technically, if you go out to the 3rd decimal place, 2024 beat 2023 (16.822°C vs 16.821°C) - but it is effectively a tie. @npub1ygf…tutr

It looks like there may be a handful of 90F temps at 71F north in Russia and 1 in Norway.

2024-08-07 00:10:19 UTC

Looking at all daily observations in the GHCN-D database globally, this 89°F (31.7°C) reading *may be* the warmest temperature ever recorded north of 70°N. The U.S. and Canada data are pretty robust and there is clearly nothing this warm, but Russian data is not great. @npub1ygf…tutr

Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks, Alaska, all had over 4" of precipitation in July 2024. This is the first month on record where all three stations had over 4". (1943-present. Note: I threaded PAMR with PANC for the Anchorage portion of the analysis). @npub1ygf…tutr
