They're delicate connectors in devices that reply on that connector for their power and need very advanced microsoldering equiptment and skills to repair where-as laptops previously had (mostly) had DC jacks on flyleads that just plug into the motherboard which means the whole device isn't e-waste as easily for like £5 in parts

One thing that makes my shit itch is Apple saying their new M4 Mac mini's are "The first carbon-neutral Mac."
But also, they're designed to be as un-repairable and throw-away as possible (no replaceable RAM, no replacement parts into the general market, delicate disassembly etc)
So is it really green? Carbon neutral doesn't count for shit if it's also so easily becoming e-waste and needing to be replaced with an entire new device which is literally 2x the e-waste within a shorter period of time

We saw a Vivianne Westwood sweatshirt in a shop window today and tried to guess the price so we popped in and asked the shop guy how much it was to scratch an itch. He asked our guesses first which was embarrassing but he enjoyed the game too and entertained us.
