As I understand it, they want Furality to be open to 18+ attendees only, and are using the age gating in VRC to enforce that. I kinda get it... especially with a virtual event, allowing minors can be a potentially risky proposition with a limited mod/admin team to keep an eye on things. But they're going about this in the worst possible way imo.
This fucking SUCKS because the experience I had last year at Furality Somna was incredible and legitimately life-changing. I *WANT* to go again this year quite badly, even if I'm kinda meh on the theme. But if I have to doxx myself to do it? Yeah nah.

The thing is, this is 100% a Furality decision. You don't *have* to use age verification to use VRChat; you don't lose functionality in VRC if you're not verified. Not that I'm not interested in seeing Resonite grow - just assigning the blame where it's due.

I worked in foodservice for several years with 1oz (30ml) and 2oz (60ml) portion cups, as well as a regular consumer of 12oz (355ml) aluminum beverage cans, so... I may be in the minority but I do have a pretty good frame of reference between the two.
Still I wish we'd gone through metrification like the government wanted to do in the 70's... There was even a renewed push in the early 90's too, under president Bush (41) but for some frustrating reason there was a lot of social resistance to change that still exists today.
They even went as far as converting one of our interstate highways to Metric as a test - I-19 between Tucson, AZ and the border crossing at Nogales, Mexico. Amusingly enough, although the Arizona department of transportation later added some signs in imperial units, the highway still has all of it's metric signage.

Do any of y'all do video editing on Linux - and if so, what software do you use/recommend? Specifically looking to make stuff formatted for YouTube/PeerTube or TikTok/YT Shorts/Loops. I've been playing with Shotcut and it seems *really* powerful - but also less user-friendly for quick edits like adding subtitles to a short video.

One potential workaround: copy the Bluesky links from the article then paste them into the search box on https://atproto.at. That's an ATproto protocol explorer that will pull the raw post content without being restricted by the BlueSky appview/frontend content labeling filters.

Uggh I wish I was better at hand sewing... I can do it but I am not great at fixing holes in the type of fabric commonly used in t-shirts and polos. Husbanderg asked me to fix one of his work shirts and this is about the best I can make it look... It's way more visible than I'd like.

I'm pretty sure it is AI, unfortunately. The attachment ring on the collar is shaped weirdly and nebulously blurry, as is the badge holder attachment to said ring. The way the badge attaches to the ring is weird as well, with webbing the same color as the collar going through the lanyard hole in the badge holder instead of some sort of clip like in the real world. I've also never seen a square badge and badge holder before. Also the keyboard is positioned weird in the background and appears to be bendy in the way that real keyboards are not... It couldn't be two keyboards side-by-side as the one on the right has the directional arrow keys centered between the rat and the edge of the frame, meaning the left edge of the keyboard should be on the other side of the rat, but the geometry doesn't match up.
It's a really cute idea, don't get me wrong! But yeah, 98% sure it's AI generated.

@npub1rx6…pdar Hey I just noticed something that might be a bug? I'm running version 2.3.0+fork.110.moshinda-play (110) and if I attempt to change my pfp to an animated gif from the edit profile screen, something appears to flatten the gif upon selecting it so when you save the change, it only actually sets the first frame of the gif as your pfp.

While I'm beyond appreciative that Bridgy exists, and I have both of my accounts bridged to boot, man I wish there hadn't been such a backlash to the idea initially. I mean, I absolutely do get the privacy angle but how amazing would it have been if we didn't have to go convince people we wanna follow to go sign up for bridging themselves? If that bridge had been totally transparent in use, just as if it were just another instance full of users? I know people who are interested in the additional functionality and privacy options that the Fediverse can offer, but they refuse to leave BlueSky because it's still too difficult to follow their friends through the bridge.

In my previous job, I worked with Intune MDM... Yeah we had several instances of someone on my team accidentally disabling or wiping employee-owned phones. I suspect this is more common than many would like to admit. After that experience, I'll *never* allow an employer to have control over my personal device, even if it means I have to find a new job.

I'm not really ready to leave Rekordbox myself so I totally understand what you mean... It could still be worth playing around with Mixxx as a backup option tho. That's how I've been treating it. It gives me Traktor-ish kinda vibes - though I'm not experienced enough with either Traktor or Mixxx to say if that's anything more than skin-deep. The workflow is certainly different and clunkier than Rekordbox (mostly in library sorting and track previewing), so it will probably take a bit to get used to it... But I'm still finding it to be an interesting option worth further exploration, and you might as well.
How open are you to alternative options for Lightroom and Substance Painter? My experience in this field is zero so I don't know enough to say how actually good these options are, but if you're willing to try something new, this alternatives chart *might* help give you a starting point to explore from - especially those options that run on Linux.

Not sure if it'd be suitable for your needs (minus the VR support) but have you given Ubuntu Studio a try? It's a distro that includes a bunch of media creation & editing tools built in for the photo editing part, along with Mixxx for DJing. I'm not sure if it includes anything like substance painter, but a quick Google search seems to suggest it may work via WINE if you want to fiddle with that. As far as Mixxx goes, I need to play with it some more but it seems competent... Might be worth a try if you haven't looked at it already.

I still don't fully understand how they intend to handle moderation at scale. The framework they've built is called "composable moderation" (described here: https://bsky.social/about/blog/03-12-2024-stackable-moderation) with the idea that there's multiple layers; the baseline is enforced by Bluesky's in-house moderation team, but then you can subscribe to third-party labeler services that allow you to filter content in your feed based on whether or not they're tagged with specific labels. They even open-sourced their admin tool, Ozone, ostensibly to allow others to also run moderation services... but I can't wrap my brain around how that would work in practice, or how permissions work to even allow moderation actions to happen in the first place. I think Ozone works in concert with a labeler service, so if you run a labeler you can also provide moderation actions too? But it's clear as mud to me as to how third-party moderation coexists with BlueSky (the company)'s moderation services on the network. Like, if a mod for a labeler says a post is bad, does it just get hidden for those users that subscribe to the labeler, or does it disappear from the network? (I guess it just gets hidden only for those that subscribe to the labeler?) And if I'm incorrect and they actually intend to moderate everything that goes through Bluesky (the company)'s relay and appviews in-house... they're going to have to grow a sizeable admin team to deal with scale.

I've been doing a lot of digging into this lately... Their architecture is completely different than Fedi/ActivityPub, as they want to replicate the "global network" feel of Twitter. Because of that, it's never going to have the same "communities that can also talk to one another" feel that Fedi has.
They DO now have a distributed network of "personal data servers", or PDSs - including ones owned by the community - but that's not federation in the same sense as, say, Mastodon. As far as I can tell, everything still relies on BlueSky's Relay (previously called the BGS or Big Graph Service).

Frustrating as hell. Snarfed has the patience of a SAINT. I tried to correct the misinfo about Bridgy whenever I saw it too, but it largely fell upon deaf ears. Love Fedi but this has been an annoyance from day one. And like I get it, despite it's open-access architecture, Fedi attracted a lot of marginalized voices seeking escape from traditional social media and they are super wary of attempts to grow the network... for very understandable reasons. Fedi has been kind of a quiet corner of the Internet, a safe space for these users... right up until interest exploded after Twitter's ownership change. But like... multiple social media services utilizing a common protocol to interoperate is the *entire point* of the Fediverse, and both users and admins have the tools to control with whom they wish to share their data - from utilizing post privacy options and blocking the domain on a personal level all the way up to joining an instance that only federates via an allow-list. Few seemed willing to hear any of that though, and a small number even argued that ALL federation should be opt-in (which would, y'know, completely break how federation works). *sigh* Honestly, I gave up. And Bridgy hasn't been the only target of this either - I ended up having to fully mute the fedi block hashtag because I kept seeing "ZOMG block this site they're a SCRAPER" when in reality it was often just another legitimate project seeking to implement ActivityPub interoperability.
