back when the first episode aired, I thought, “they should really talk to Evan.” So I was pleased to know they had been talking to you all along.

Two AI products above Friends in the Facebook navigation. Could there be any clearer statement about Meta’s priorities?
Also, WTF is Manus AI and why is it different than Meta AI? Actually, don’t answer that. I’m never going to use either of them.

Oooh. Super excited about this Ursula K. Le Guin exhibit. Limited time through Feb 8 at Oregon Contemporary. https://www.portlandmercury.com/visual-art/2025/11/25/48142782/seeing-ursula-k-le-guins-many-sides

Today’s Cloudflare outage reminded me of something I’ve occasionally wondered about: where do CDN companies host their status pages?
Does Cloudflare contract with a competitor to host their status page? Multiple competitors? AWS status page on Google? Google status on Azure?

Why are all of the Apple OS 26 icons blurry? Is that intentional?

"But I’ll say this: the AI bubble isn’t predominantly giving off Pets.com or Global Crossing vibes anymore. It’s giving Enron vibes. When the dust settles, we’ll probably see a whole lot of books written about the fancy math games that convinced investors that two companies passing $100 billion back and forth were creating $200 billion in value instead of having a net financial impact of $0."

72-hour work weeks to make billionaires richer and build machines to replace you? Absolutely not. Burn it down. https://www.wired.com/story/silicon-valley-china-996-work-schedule/

Last week I learned that the loading=“lazy” behavior changed while I wasn’t paying attention. I wrote a quick article about the change in case others missed the news like I did. https://cloudfour.com/thinks/lazy-loading-hidden-images/

Read this by Heather Burns and then try to justify Matt Mullenweg’s actions. https://heatherburns.tech/2025/01/12/another-day-of-stochastic-harassment-for-old-times-sake/

WP Engine sent me an email with the subject line, “Together We Made 2024 Unforgettable.” Uh… 2024 was certainly unforgettable, but I’m not sure how much of a role I played in it.
Maybe they meant to send it to Matt Mullenweg? ;)

Every time I visit Europe I find myself wishing American cities were more like European ones.
Or at minimum, that our neighborhood had sidewalks. I’d take sidewalks as a start.

OMG. I missed the big news about Sanity. That's awesome. Maybe they will have you work on the new acronym.

I mean, I don’t know what hosting provider this person is using https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41830709, but it could be any provider other than WP Engine including Automattic-owned providers like Pressable, Wordpress VIP, and WordPress dot com.
Funny that you’re safer on WP Engine atm.

We have a heavily customized client site that relies on ACF. When I read the news this weekend about the plugin theft, I worried for a moment that I needed to do something to protect our customer’s site.
But then I remembered they’re on WP Engine so we weren’t impacted. 🤷

One of the great ironies of the WordPress drama is that WP Engine’s hosting looks better by the day.
Want updates to the real ACF? Want to avoid weekend plugin theft taking down your site? Want uninterrupted updates to NitroPack?
Use WP Engine.

LinkedIn keeps suggesting the same person to me and every time I see their avatar, for a moment, I think they're not wearing a shirt. Every time.

2024-09-25 16:12:10 UTC

Today's tip: Don't wear a flesh-colored shirt in the photo you use on social media—especially on LinkedIn where you're trying to look professional. When someone scrolls past their avatar, they wonder why you posted a topless photo. Oh, and it doesn't help if your beard covers the shirt neckline.
