As you say, I think you’ve managed to articulate something that a lot of people feel deep down, but can’t put into words.
I’m trying to raise the kids on a higher standard, but when all their peers are “delulu”, it’s like fighting the tide..
I believe >60% of 4 year olds have their own tablet in my country, and you can bet your ass they don’t spend 20 minutes a day on it. I personally think that the next 10-15 years, when the “screens since birth” generation comes of age, are going to be… interesting.

If the GrapheneOS devs enjoy the occasional sniff of coke up their nose (or whatever you may find morally repulsive) that does not mean their product is shit and you should stay away from it..

Sorry to hear and I second your note... we see it happening right in front of our eyes again and again, and no matter how hard we try, we can’t break the cycle. We’ve tried everything.. doctor’s drugs, dealer’s drugs, moving in, letting go, meditation, sports, work, group therapy, a buddy system, you name it.. It’s been the same loop for over 2 decades.
It’s absolutely devastating for the person in question, but also for their immediate friends and family.

After years of telling my very good friend and decade long colleague how absolutely fucked the fiat system is, (and basically shilling him Bitcoin without shilling him Bitcoin), he swung by yesterday and voluntarily started asking about my view on geopolitics and if this was a good time to buy..
After we talked for over an hour about bond math, geopolitics, US debt, the end of globalisation, Japan, and how absolutely cooked the whole system is, he pulled the trigger and finally bought his first chunk of Bitcoin. He’s down 10% and he’s not even 24 hours into his btc journey..

I think, at the core, tough guy’s question didn’t really have anything to do with you owning equity, but more with XXI being a publicly traded company.

The Central Park concert is amazing. I must’ve watched it a couple dozen times by now.
They also cover All Along the Watchtower there, and its absolutely amazing..
Carter Beaufort on the drums is in a league of his own.. I’ve not yet encountered another drummer in “main stream” music with his qualities and vibe.. too bad they never really made it big outside of the States.
If you’ve got a bit, I highly recommend you watch the concert. It’s fantastic!

I consider myself extremely lucky I met my wife before the instant messaging era began. I spent hours, sometimes days, crafting sms text messages. Adhering to the charachter limit, making sure every word mattered and conveyed what I wanted it to, and have some meaningful message to send, riding my bike to the store to top up my phone so I could send some more texts…
Teens these days have no reason not to be online and connected all the time. I imagine the whole dynamic of texting with your crush (the way I experienced it) is completely gone. I have fond memories of those days. I pity my kids for not being able to experience this.

I read some articles about his early years a while back. He had an absolutely insane focus on his craft.
He’d spend a fixed amount of minutes training his riding skills, his match routines and freestyle skills every single day. If somebody came up to talk to him, he’d stop the clock, because those minutes wouldn’t count towards his training regime.
Apparently, at some point, a friend drove 20 hours across the country to meet him, and arrived in the middle of his training session. He politely told the dude to wait till he was done, because he was in the middle of his routine.
He was in a league of his own, and I think it’s safe the say he singlehandedly lifted the sport to unimagined levels. I mean, he invented the kickflip and heelflip ffs..
The guy is a living example of achieving the impossible, and making it look easy in the process. An absolute legend!

Ive been using it for a week or two now. I like how its possible to switch between AI models, and through some magic, the new model recognises the conversation and continues it as if you’ve been using that model all along!
On a new side note, the first impressions of the new google gemini model are awesome.
It managed to write a text based on a local dialect, and make puzzles and crosswords for the kids with ease!

Just an interesting data point I’ve been fleshing out for myself lately..
My two oldest sons are 6 and 8. Im actively involved at their school and sports teams, and talk to their peers a lot.
I’ve been asking around a lot in their class, soccer and gym teams, neighborhood friend groups, family etc.. They are *the only* two kids of their age without their own iPad and who don’t play fucking Roblox and stare at whatever YouTube serves them every day.
In case you missed out on Roblox, the game mechanics are basically the cheapest most barebone dopamine hits you can get, while constantly being confronted to speed things up if you pay enough money for it.. YouTube speaks for itself..
My outlook for most of that future generation (and the class of politicians they will spawn) has become very bleak, to say the least.

Through this lens, spending time with my kids had become vastly more important than work, debating politics, or even just keeping track of the news..

Maybe an interesting datapoint:
I live in a town of 20-30k people with an extremely close and tight community. Very few people move away, and families are generally big and very close.
In the shitcoin summer of 17-18, everybody and their mother was taking about the next hypecoins and the insane gainz they would make if coin X went to value Y.
Every family gathering featured an obligatory half hour discussion of who knew the guy who made the biggest gainzz, and recommendations for the next altcoin moonshot. FOMO was par for the course, so many people piled in blindly.
In short: *a lot* of people were into trading “crypto” at the time. If I had to make an educated guess, I’d say north of 50% of people/couples 18-35 were in on it. On a personal note: pretty much every one of my friends, cousins and colleagues was buying at the time.
In the 2020 Ledger leak, I decided to do a quick search for my town to see how many people this affected and maybe give them a heads up.
The search returned a total of 1 result.. a guy I happened to know, who shitcoined his BTC away (or so he says; maybe this was his “boating accident” escape)
So this was at a time where the average Joe could still afford 1 BTC with “disposable income”.
I know there are more hardware wallets than Ledger, and resellers are a thing, but based on the above, I would guesstimate very few people actually self custody, let alone more than 1 BTC.

What’s often overlooked is that there is a giant cultural / ingrained difference between the western and the Middle Eastern man.
For centuries, the civilizations in/from Europe had to plan, think and strategize in advance to prepare for coming winters. This led to fixed settlements close, and people remained in one place for most of their lives. Through this development, we ended up with a rule of law and authority in the form of judges.
In the Middle East, this was much less the case. There was a much bigger nomadic aspect to the people, which meant no fixed homes, and down the line: no judge to call on in case of dispute.
So essentially, when people tend to disagree, in Europe, they would call upon an authority to settle the dispute. The Middle Eastern man, however, would take matters into his own hands and settle it himself. I believe the term “an eye for an eye” also finds its origin there.
This way of thinking trickles down into basically every aspect of how life works and results in giant differences in morals and values between the people nowadays, and this is completely overlooked when the Western man judges the current events in the Middle East or vice versa.
At least, that’s my 2 sats deduced from my history books..

Analysis should’ve covered the cost of production + risk + profit for builders to profitably build homes, and taken it from there.
That would have more accurately captured all the “premiums” due to building permits requiring much more inputs and the fact that modern homes have orders of magnitude more complex AC, heating, electrics, plumbing, appliances etc.

A lot of internet communication, like websites and e-mail, is done through open protocols. Anyone can build an app, adhere to the protocol and communicate with other people regardless of what app they’re using on the other end.

100% agree!
I used to be fiercely engaged in debates and opinions about national politics, until I had an epiphany and realized what an idiot I was. Obsessing over things I can’t influence, and letting it affect my mood and personality regularly.
I then stopped watching politics, and pretty much (inter)national news in general, and I’ve never been more relaxed and happy.. would definitely recommend!

As an engineer, I use Newton’s laws on a daily basis to design structures, small and large.
Small (and large) catch: nature doesn’t actually operate according to Newton’s laws. However, the margin of error is sufficiently small not to matter much.. so basically, all my work is “close enough” *cue meme*
