I think one of the biggest problems with gardening is that people don't think "what do I plant that will do well in the place where I live", they think "how do I make the place where I live comfortable for the things that I'll plant".
Like... there's a million things that will not only grow where you live without you so much as touching the soil but *thrive* there. Hundreds of millions of years of evolution has given us tens of thousands of edible plant species, many of which have adapted to the exact conditions you live in, but instead we want to grow the same five or six vegetables which were bred to grow half a world away and which we need greenhouses and hundreds of dollars of soil amendments to get growing even *passibly*.
I'm not saying you shouldn't plant hard to grow things you want to eat, especially if you wouldn't be able to eat them otherwise. But I guarantee you that there are hundreds of crops you could be growing that would do better in your soil than tomato seeds bought at your local Walmart. You can make your life a million times easier by looking for things that actually *want* to grow where you're going to plant them. And in doing so, you'll get to eat things you'd never so much as *see* at a grocery store.
In other words, we need to decentralize gardening.

One thing that strikes me about the Palestinian Holocaust is how united the people are against it - and how universally the ruling class has mobilized to see it to completion. Palestine is a proof of concept - if the ruling class can get away with live streaming a genocide through its entirety despite overwhelming opposition from the people, they can get away with anything.
We are at a turning point; the rise of AI and its increasing usage by the police, military, etc is rapidly robbing the working class of our power. If we do not act now, we may never have the strength to act again; if Palestine falls, we will all fall with it.

It never stops occurring to me just how cruel it is that we not only put Palestinians in the situation of having to beg on platforms that continually suppress them to have even a hope of surviving genocide, but force them to justify themselves to people from the very countries that are responsible for arming and preventing dissent against that genocide. Palestinians should not need our charity to live.

Good article from Gizmodo about the epidemic of people harassing innocent Palestinians and manufacturing reasons to accuse them of fraud:
It talks a bit about Saeed Ismail (among others), who was harassed en masse for taking a picture wearing a blanket that had visible broken english on the label. It got to the point where Saeed Ismail posted multiple videos of himself and his "AI-generated" blanket to try and fend off the harassment. As far as I can tell, nobody involved ever apologized to him or attempted to make amends, and Bluesky nonchalantly banned his account as it does with most Palestinians who post fundraisers.

Grocery chains have been a disaster for American food culture like people are so shocked to learn that the vast majority of vegetables not only have dozens of different visually distinct varieties but that some of those varieties actually have flavor because they haven't been bred exclusively for their ability to be shipped across the country and be kept in a fridge for several weeks
Like I straight up had someone tell me "I didn't know there were cucumber varieties" - of course there are cucumber varieties! This is a crop we've been farming for thousands of years! Of course it has varieties!!! Please go to a farmer's market

A week or two ago I made a post outlining all the ways in which Bluesky was failing - or actively harming - its marginalized users. Two days ago, Bluesky banned Lexi Alexander, a Palestinian-American leftist filmmaker who had tens of thousands of followers on Bluesky. She was permanently banned without so much as being given a warning - as is common on Bluesky. Despite mass backlash, Bluesky staff have refused to reinstate her account or even to so much as explain their reasoning for banning her.
This is unforgivable. Bluesky staff have had every chance to listen to the grievances of their marginalized & leftist users. Instead they've chosen - repeatedly - to cozy up to the right and suppress us in the name of white comfort. This is a site that bans Palestinians and leftists without explanation while going out of its way to platform violent bigots like Jesse Singal and JD Vance - in the former case, even going so far as to ban his critics and revise the rules to accommodate him. The myth of a progressive Bluesky is dead.
I'm not going to say that nobody should be using Bluesky, because unfortunately, niche platforms like Mastodon simply do not allow us to reach as many people as we can elsewhere. But it's well past time that we stopped pretending that Bluesky is morally superior to Twitter instead of just being a different flavor of white supremacist tech bro hell.
Edit: After three days, Lexi Alexander has finally been unsuspended. Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word here and on Bluesky!
Hopefully this will serve as a wake up call and get more Bluesky users to consider at the very least making a backup account on Mastodon.
