"Sexual violence and deliberate harassment have become increasingly common in the occupied West Bank, perpetrated by Israeli soldiers and settlers. According to observers, these acts are no longer isolated incidents but rather systematic tools used by Israel to pressure Palestinians and force them to leave their homes.
On March 13, in the middle of the night, more than 70 settlers attacked Khirbet Hamsa al-Fawqa.
Qusay told Al Jazeera that the settlers divided themselves into groups to attack the Palestinian tents. Five of the settlers attacked his tent – where he had been asleep – and began beating him severely with their hands and sticks. They also assaulted two foreign female activists who were sleeping in the same tent.
“The settlers then forcibly removed my pants while tying my hands and feet, binding my body with my belt, and stripping me of my underwear,” Qusay said. He recounted that the settlers then beat his genitals, tied his limbs and genitals with plastic zip ties, and humiliated him, before threatening to repeat the assault if he did not leave the area.
The assault on Qusay and all the residents of the area lasted for approximately 45 minutes. During that time, many residents, including children, reported being beaten, and said they were threatened with death if they didn’t leave immediately. The settlers also stole hundreds of livestock.
At the end of the assault, Qusay said that the settlers dragged him along the ground without his underwear and severely beat him all over his body, including his eye, which later became swollen."

Liam Bartlett, pro-fossil-fuel reporter for channel seven's 'Spotlight' program dug for dirt on renewable energy. Here’s what he left out and got completely wrong..
"Spotlight reporter Liam Bartlett, who a decade ago spent two years working for Shell, reported from the Shabara mine in Congo’s Kolwezi region.
“Almost 80% of the world’s cobalt is mined in places like this,” said Bartlett, claiming cobalt was the mineral behind every battery – from electric vehicles to home batteries and the “monster” batteries being installed across Australia to store renewable energy.
.. but there were two big problems with Spotlight’s attempt to link every battery to these appalling conditions.
According to an industry group representing companies that produce cobalt, about 99% of the mineral is gathered as a by-product of mining other minerals, chiefly nickel and copper.
Spotlight focused on batteries for renewable energy, but about a third of all cobalt is used in laptops and smartphones. Other uses include jet engines, medical implants, car tyres and pigments.
A Seven spokesperson said “some estimates put the percentage of cobalt mined in artisanal mines at 30%” and that this ore was mixed with cobalt from industrial mines.
Second, there’s a problem with Bartlett’s claim that cobalt is in every battery.
“That’s not true,” says Prof Neeraj Sharma, a battery technology expert at the University of New South Wales.
Sharma says battery manufacturers have been moving away from using cobalt because it is toxic, expensive and “ethically fraught”.
Sharma says many electric vehicle companies and large battery manufacturers now use cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. He says last year about half of EV batteries and 90% of home and grid-scale batteries used cobalt-free technology.
None of this crucial context was presented to Spotlight’s viewers.
A Seven spokesperson said battery technology was evolving and was “essential to our renewable future” but did not say why this hadn’t been explained in the program.
Prof Susan Park, a renewables governance expert at the University of Sydney who reviewed the segment, says artisanal workers are in the region “because of extreme poverty”. To blame China for the abuses – as Bartlett did – “denies the agency of the Congolese government”, and the problem existed “well before Chinese companies became involved in cobalt”, she says."

At least 160,000 people to be removed from NDIS as Labor unveils "unavoidable and urgent" cuts

"At least 160,000 people are expected to be removed from the National Disability Insurance Scheme by 2030, as the Albanese government looks to claw back savings by changing who can access the scheme.
The health minister, Mark Butler, also announced on Wednesday the $50bn scheme’s growth rate will be brought down to just 2% every year until 2030 in an effort to curb annual plan inflation and produce billions in savings.
The government will dramatically increase the categories of service providers required to register with the federal government, adding more higher risk activities, including personal care, daily living supports, and supports provided in closed settings."
- So while the responsibilities of the care providers are increased, their pay goes down.
"There are about 760,000 people on the scheme at the moment, meaning at least 160,000 will no longer be able to access the NDIS within four years.
“These are hard decisions – but they’re unavoidable and urgent,” Butler said."

"In November, three activists from Palestine Action Eire crashed a modified van through a barrier at Shannon Airport, drove onto the runway towards a United States military aircraft and sprayed green paint on a parked Boeing 737-700.
The action was in protest against what they saw as Ireland’s complicity in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza through the US military’s continued use of Shannon Airport. At the time, Israel’s onslaught had killed more than 69,000 Palestinians.

Someone has placed good quality mulch and soil all over my heat-ravaged garden that died off during the last summer apart from a few established stronger plants/bushes 😮
Whoever you are THANKYOU! I couldn't manage it with my back and health, but now I can at least manage to replant some nice ground cover and blooms over time, now that the good quality soil is in 👍 👍 🌼

Question to Australian Fediverse users:
Does anyone know a legitimate company selling Plastic 6mm BB Pellets within Australia?
I've been scammed twice now on eBay and I refuse to trust any further sellers on that scamming platform, they either dropship completely different items of the complete wrong size from china or they just take the money and try to run without sending anything, causing me to lodge a dispute with eBay to get my cash back.. Sick of wasting my time on that scamming platform, need a legitimate company here in Australia that sells them.
Any help very much appreciated.

Yikes, boiling here too for the next week+... What I do when it's unbearable at night is wet the top sheet down thoroughly and sleep under that with a fan pointed at the bed, cools it right down until it evaporates after 25mins or so but gives you time to get to sleep 👍

They tried doing that with mine a while back after leaving a review for Tesla, they seem to be allowing my reviews again.. Google seem to *forgive* you for doing the right thing after leaving a couple of positives for other places..
*Also helps to have 'Location' OFF on your devices permanently.

Does anyone know where there's an 'accurate' list of regional Mastodon Instances? the 'joinmastodon . org' link claims there's only 2 in Oceania (which there's actually a LOT more but it refuses to show them for some reason) anyone got a better link? I need to host my backup account on a server with way more stability than Mastodon . World that isn't Mastodon . Au or Aus . Social, thanks.
