Yesterday we told you about Jolla appearing on Viiden Jälkeen by Finnish national TV channel MTV. Today they published the full story! 🎉
MTV wrote about digital sovereignty and whether a Finnish mobile operating system could be the European alternative (article in Finnish 🇫🇮). There are only four mobile operating systems in the world: two American, one Chinese — and Sailfish OS. The only truly European one.

When long-time community member @npub1jtr…a79a said the Jolla C2 felt a bit too big for her hands, we didn’t just take notes. We invited her over. She stopped by the office to try the new Jolla Phone appearance models in person.
Her verdict:
“8.5/10 for size, materials, and hand-feel. After handling the sample model for the better part of an hour, I’m apprehensive no more. It fits well in my small-ish hands.” She also notes it may go up to a 9/10 once the final weight and balance are locked in.

A new era for Sailfish OS
Sailfish 5 has been in development since October 2024, first launching with the Jolla C2 Community Phone. With continuous refinements and community collaboration, we are now bringing this update to all supported devices.
What’s new in Sailfish OS 5.0?
⚓ Sailfish Browser engine updated to Gecko ESR91, with work ongoing towards ESR102.
⚓ Android AppSupport upgraded to Android 13 (API level 33) for better app compatibility.
⚓ microG 0.3.6 enablers added and fixed.

Sailfish 5 is now in Early Access 2 for all supported devices, and we’re thrilled with the positive feedback so far. Thank you for your input—keep it coming!
At FOSDEM 2025, the Linux on Mobile stand was packed with visitors eager to discuss open-source mobile platforms. Over the weekend, we had 500–1000 visitors stopping by, making this year even busier than before!
At our BoF session, we explored:
