there's _the work_, and then there are measures of value
if _the work_ is good, there's every reason for it to have different, complimentary kinds of value to different consumers.
- the developer gains experience, pride in their work, reputation, connections
- the consuming team gets to focus on _their_ work, instead of lower-level UI things
- PMs get to see lines go up
all of those are people by the way. when they close their laptops at 5pm, the benefits they gained from a nice DS don't fly out of their bank accounts and into corporate coffers

in my view, a good indicator for a design system team is when their low-level decisions taken according to sensible principles end up having larger positive impacts higher up the stack
you organized your token names and values in a sensible way, it ends up being relatively turnkey to implement dark mode in an entire app

it's been my experience that people say "component library" when they want to minimize the value of a design system. so let's use their language and see if we can find any relationships between elements:
- color harmonies between tokens (themability)
- congruency of element attributes and token values
- emergent properties when combining tokens => elements => patterns => themes (this is the big one)
So our component library turns out to have quite some scope for complex, emergent expression. It's also been my experience that the majority of people benefit from the centralization of org knowledge in a well-written DS (portability between teams/projects, for example)
So what I'm digging at is: often org needs also help those orgs' people as well.
