whether or not the protocol allows for federation they're basically just a centralized platform though. That has let them avoid much of the confusion people have with federation but if they were to ever fulfill the promise of being decentralized they'de have to tackle that issue just like fediverse platforms have to.

Bluesky really isn't liking this post by the CEO. Didn't see a single comment agreeing.
I don't condone political violence but I do get the frustration from people over this. This is the BS leadership trying to seem neutral in the same way they were when they welcomed JD Vance.

Some right-wing commentators think Bluesky is struggling because people aggressively drive away users that don't align with more left-leaning views similarly to the cancelling you mention for Mastodon.
The fediverse certainly also seems left-leaning but I don't think a single topic takes over everything as much here, maybe because of the algorithmic differences. OTOH Bluesky users don't seem as eager to attack developers...

what's the longest-running? Personally I'd call Ingress a location-based game, I don't know if that has changed but at least the last time I played it did not even have the token "AR" feature that Niantic's Pokemon Go does and I'd not really call even that AR.
That's not to take anything away from these types of games, I think the concept is still great and has not been explored as much as it could be.

their actions don't seem like terrorism but Palestine Action looks like a pretty questionable organization since they also destroyed equipment headed for Ukraine at a repair/upgrade facility for military hardware in Belgium and vandalized the Finnish defense ministry building...
One could see ulterior motives there and really don't think that kind of stuff is going to help the Palestinian cause, probably more likely to turn some people against it...

it would be interesting to see language-specific figures for Bluesky where I think it would be possible to at least approximate based on the proportion of posts flowing in.
My impression is that the Finnish-language community there may not be that much bigger than on the fediverse either. Of course while their overall active userbase is certainly larger than the fediverse currently, it has been trending down for many months now too...

Tällä hetkellä näyttäisi olevan 13.11M kuukaudessa aktiivisia (ks. https://bskycharts.edavis.dev/merklehost.xyz/bskycharts.merklehost.xyz/bsky_users_total.html ) joka on kyllä kertaluokkaa enemmän kuin mitä menneet aallot tuottivat, BSky oli onnekkaasti se hypen kohde nyt USA:n vaalien jälkeen kun vihdoin useampi tajusi miksi Xitteristä on tullut haitta.
Sitä mikä se "kriittinen massa" on ei taida silti kukaan tietää. Päivittäisten aktiivisten määrän kasvu on jo lakannut tästäkin aallosta ja todennäköisesti aaltoa seuraa taas laskua.

well, I think it's probably a financial loss for every one of these services right now. Threads seems to be preparing to roll out ads so for them it might change soon but Bluesky is still running on invested money and hasn't really talked about monetization that will actually make it sustainable yet so far.

ymmärrän pointin siinä että kun sodassa kuolee Israelin toimien seurauksena Palestiinalaisia siviilejä jatkuvasti ja yksittäisten USA:n ja Turkin kansalaisten kuolemat johtavat heti tällaisiin vaatimuksiin niin siinä on epäsuhta. Uskon myös sen että samalla tavalla on varmasti runsaasti enemmän epäselviä tapauksia joita ei nosteta koska kuolleet olivat Palestiinalaisia.
Kiinnostaisi kuitenkin mihin viittaat tällä väitteellä että Israel ampunut tarkoituksellisesti lapsia?

Interesting argument but I don't think so much "reasoning about what elements are copyrightable" happens when people are producing creative works since a lot of the synthesizing happens without being fully conscious about where all the impressions come from.

noilla luvuilla on kyllä jo Xitteriä melko lähellä. Saataisiinpa vaan se Threadsin fediverse-tuki suomalaisillekin tileille joskus päälle niin voisi täältäkin seurata... Meta on vaan toistaiseksi jättänyt koko EU:n noiden toimintojen testauksen ulkopuolelle.
