I could be wrong, but this looks like a genius EU strategy after the White House shit show.
After world leaders met in London, Macron gave an interview to Le Figaro outlining this exact same plan. A "partial truce", he called it. He said it was discussed with Starmer.
Hours later, Zelenskyy posted a communiqué stating the same.
Today, they're framing it as if it was the US that proposed it. In the end, a ready deal is being offered to russia that sounds like an ultimatum to Putin.

In exchange, russia was one of the nuclear powers who committed to guarantee the #security, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

As Portuguese national, I have 2 main reasons for supporting #Ukraine:
1) right the wrongs of Portugal's colonial imperialist past by supporting Ukraine in fighting against a colonial empire in the present
2) #StandWithUkraine in joining NATO+EU to be free from tyranny

Since 2014, #Putin has had 2 objectives:
1) a puppet government in #Ukraine to drain its wealth & resources;
2) prevent Ukraine from joining #EU & #NATO, to sustain objective 1.
Putin temporarily achieved objective 1 in 20% of Ukrainian territory temporarily occupied, but failed in the remaining 80%.
Putin could fail at objective 2, but while NATO members express doubt, Putin still hopes to achieve it.
Putin won't give up on objective 2 and end the #war unless NATO invites Ukraine to join.

What most leaders in Western #Europe still don't get is that, for us, not seeing others as our enemies does not automatically guarantee that others won't see us as their enemy.
A few years after independence in 1991, #Ukraine gave up all its nukes and demilitarised almost entirely. Ukrainians felt no acrimony towards anyone. Ukraine signed friendship agreements with its neighbours. And still, a couple of decades later #russia had become its enemy.
European leaders must stop behaving foolishly.

Macron has been saying the right things for at least a year now. But the European alliance is far too slow for the fascist axis, and far too obsessed with unity to the lowest denominator (Hungary, Austria, Ireland, Portugal...) over security to the highest denominator (Ukraine, Poland, Denmark, Netherlands, Baltics...)

We should be arming #Ukraine, not "for as long as it takes", but TO WIN.
