Do I think there's going to be an AI bubble that will eventually pop? Sure, but that doesn't mean the technology will disappear. It's like porn.

Last night I had the opportunity to get upset over something someone close to me said.
I felt my ego rise, and recognized it. "There you are ego." I said to myself. "You're going to be okay. This will pass."
And as I felt it rise, I watched it and gave comfort. "This wont last long." I thought. "Watch it, and let it go." I reminded my ego.
And over a few minutes, I felt calm. I recognized the intent of the other person, looking past their words, and I practiced empathy.

Yep. The thing is, in my view, the PeerTube app is trying it's best to fill a hole, but it's trying to dig with one hand behind it's back.
The issue is that the vast majority of PeerTube instance only allow accounts for people who are making videos. They do this to keep the spam and bad actors down and because it would take a lot of time to monitor.
So Framasoft, the people who develop PeerTube tried to make an app.

"Hardfork" is a podcast centered around tech and mostly reports on AI. They started a Mastodon instance as a project to see if "the promise of the Fediverse" was real or not?
It started as a small instance only allowing 2000 new registrations. I'm not sure if they raised that or not yet?

Does anyone with essential tremors have any experience with using a mouse versus a trackball or a trackball mouse?
I've developed essential tremors that have been getting slowly worse this last year and I find myself having difficulty sometimes clicking on something like the X that closes your browser. I used a trackball in the past so I'm wondering if going back to one would help?

Boosting.
When Mastodon was smaller, boosting was seen as the life blood of the place. Having no algorithm meant that if you saw something fun or interesting, you boosted it so that others could see it as well.
And then Twitter became a dumpster fire and Mastodon had a growth spurt.

I'm thinking of starting my own #PeerTube instance since the one I'm on might be closing next month.
I could afford a single user instance as long as I don't livestream. The price jumps from $10 a month to $40 if I want to livestream and that's not something I can afford, especially since I only livestream once to twice a week.
I could open up the instance to others for a monthly fee, but that feels like it may be a bigger pain in the ass then I think.

I mean, I don’t think he’s any more techy than anyone else I know. He’s good at following instructions. He likes to build things. And in a sense, that’s what he’s doing. He’s just following instructions.
And I really think they’ve made it easier than ever to install Linux Mint (the distro I recommended) and there’s really easy instructions on how to create a bootable thumb drive. Once you’ve got that, the rest is a cakewalk.

After having cancelled Disney and Hulu along with Paramount and HBO we only have 1 show to finish watching before the subscription ends next month.
I find myself playing video games more often. I think we’ll find a podcast we can listen to tonight.
It feels almost like returning to a simpler time when choices in entertainment were few and the moments spent with others were more meaningful instead of just shared distractions.

Well, I mean, technically all you have to do is just follow the hashtags #peertube and #owncast here on Mastodon and you’ll see what everybody’s putting out.
People need to get better at using hashtags for their videos. For example, if you’re a woodworker making cups, then you should definitely use #woodwork and #cups along with the #Peertube hashtag. That way when people go searching for those tags, they’ll find the video that they're looking for.

The problem is that none of that changes the behavior of people on the Fedi.
You can have the best search there is, the best login, etc, but if people aren't willing to look, or share, or support in any way up and coming video creators, having the best search and "fedi ID" isn't going to mean shit.
In other words the problem with PeerTube isn't as much what it can or can't do, the problem is that people aren't willing to do the most basic things to help promote it.

As much as I hate Google, YouTube is probably the best place for up and coming movie/series actors/directors to get the attention they need to succeed until something that can compete comes along or when people start learning how to bookmark websites again. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but it's not going to happen today.
And for today, YouTube is their best chance at individual success and to break the hold that "traditional media" has had for decades.

There are already YouTube channels that have more viewers then any of the late night shows. There are web series that do better then traditional series. The infrastructure is already there. The problem is that investors aren't willing to contribute as much to non traditional forms of entertainment.
The old Hollywood mentality still exists. It's not "real" unless it's on a major network.

Just got through reading a thread on Piefed (a fedi message board) where someone was complaining about the new quote posting feature coming to Mastodon soon. They didn’t like it because people would be able to remove their post from their quote if they didn’t like what the person quoting had to say.
Their complaint is that it would only allow for positive quotes. And that people would be forced to just screenshot the quote.

The phrase "How dare you" has always seemed off to me. It should be "How do you dare?" but for some reason, someone decided to fuck with the syntax and fuck with everyone's brains.
Yet it continues to exist.
"How" is a question of the manner in which something is done.
"Dare" is a challenge.
"You" is the person it's directed at.
So essentially you're saying "In what manner challenge you?" Which is even a worse sentence.

I say that instead of rebooting old shows and movies, we just start combining them.
Like I wanna see a movie called “The breakfast fight club“ where a bunch of teenagers start a fight club in detention or “Pee-wee‘s big adventure in babysitting.” Where Pee-wee has to take the kids he’s babysitting into the big city to raise money to save his playhouse.

#today I'll be doing all of the things I wanted to do yesterday but couldn't because a friend stopped by.
Mostly working on the new layout for the livestream. Maybe a few other things here or there.
My girlfriend is working from home today. I wish she could work from home everyday, but I'm not that fortunate. I love having her around even as just a presence as she works.

I guess that's what I can't wrap my head around. I mean, I can see the value in having a vote into what goes on in the instance, but is that the only benefit?

isn't this just "pay for your space" but with extra steps? I mean, anyone could start an instance, and just charge people for the amount of space and bandwidth they use couldn't they?

So what I’m saying, is that the thing that we call “reality“ is just some arbitrary categorization of forms. The truth is that we are all simply just water in the same ocean and that separating one “thing“ from another “thing“ makes about as much sense as separating one “drop of water“ from another “drop of water“.
