Whoah ! My #OpenBSD #vi config is a hearty 10 lines long compared with the 260 of my minimal #vim config. Yeah I know I don't have theme support and what not but I'm prepared to give this a shot without all the fancy bells and whistles. The only thing it doesn't do is display my icon fonts in scripts but it's made me wonder if I even need them now. Yes nvi2 will display them but it feels like cheating to install that when n(vi) is in the base on OpenBSD.

I think I'll give #vi a go on my #OpenBSD desktop instead of using #vim for a while and see how I get on. Got my config in ~/.config/vi/exrc and I'm learning new to me stuff so all is good.

I think I'm being a tad stupid here ? How do I select text in vi or nvi not vim if it has no visual mode using just the keyboard ? Everything I search just gives me vim results.

Also something else that I have noticed as an #OpenBSD user is that vi and nvi undo functions seem to both work the same ? I mean you can press u in both to undo and then press . to do multiple undos. Yet I thought it was only nvi that had that feature? I'll have to read up more on both to find differences.

Currently I'm a #vim user with only two plugins loaded by vims own system no packer or anything. They are the gruvbox theme and colorizer to color HTML color codes.
I've been researching to see if I could work with #nvi and wondered about undo history and found that it might be possible ?
u
Undo the last change made to the file. If repeated the u command alternates between these two states. The . command when used immediately after u causes the change log to be rolled forward or backward depending on the action of the u command.
If you're an nvi user what other tips or hacks are there that I should know about ? I don't suppose there is some magical way to theme it ?

On new fishing boats like the one I posted last week are full of cat6 cable. We can put on say in the region of 200-300+ plugs. The video matrix uses them for screens all over the vessel and internet systems plus CCTV and other stuff too. Gives you sore fingers when you've made that many. Well done.

Got quite a few snagging jobs done aboard the Vigilant and Ocean Way in Peterhead this morning. Ranging from replacing one of the very heavy Neovo QX55 inch screens as the port one had a black line across the screen like missing pixels. Fitted a UPS to the vessels office PC, Programmed private channels into their Sailor VHFs, Installed the correct drivers for one on their two fushroim scales pribters and various other stuff. Even found time with the skippers permission for a few photographs for you lot. I didn't take all around but you'll get the gist.

I love my #ThinkPad P14s Gen 1 AMD and running #FreeBSD it sleeps and wakes from sleep without issue. But when I try #OpenBSD on it, It does sleep you see the ThinkPad LED pulsing indicating sleep. But when I go to wake, It just sits on a blank screen and all you can do is force it off and on again. Anybody have similar experiences ??

It makes no difference. Sometimes on reboot I get WiFi the next it doesn't and I still see on login in the following pop up over when it asks for my username on the tty.

Getting random disconnects on my ThinkPads AX200 WiFi and sometimes the wlan0 doesn't even come up and when it does it randomly disconnects. I sometimes see this error on boot.

Thanks Tom but this is what I now have and still if I run doas service netif restart then it toggles network connectivity. On first boot I have no network access but restarting netif gives me network access and the lagg works perfectly switching between re1 and wlan0 if I pull the lan cable. But if I then restart netif if all fails until I restart netif again.

I've got a weird issue on my #FreeBSD ThinkPad. Since setting up lagg yesterday which worked fine. I powered off last night and then switched it on this morning. I noticed that I had no network access on either the re1 interface or wlan0. I powered off and on and it worked. I have since discovered that if it doesn't work if I just doas service netif restart it starts to work again.

OMG I've been terrified by all of the posts I've read about how difficult it is to setup a Mikrotik device and maybe I'm missing something but I have this cAP AX setup using just the Android app along with updates and it's all working. I've still to mount it in place of the UniFi AC pro but that can be a job for the weekend. 😁

I'm after some advice from folk that use #Git . I have my own self hosted Git server and I have one repository that I'd like to empty of all content and history. I know I can just delete the remote repository and recreate it again starting a fresh. But would using git push --force <remote> <branch> not just do the same by overwriting the remote repository with the locals contents ? Or could I end up with files in the remote that are not in my local ???
I should also say that I am the only person that pushes to this remote repo too. Any help or advice is very much appreciated and thank you.

Any #FreeBSD 15.0 user able to test #MangoWC with #Foot terminal and do a screenshot selection of the terminal using the following commands ?

I get a translucent white artifact in the finished image as seen in this bug report. Yet if I do the same in #SwayWM it works perfectly.

Question for folk that use #OpenBSD in their home labs or rather several. ;)
I've got this idea to spin up OpenBSD on an i5-10500 based PC with 32Gb ram and I want to run the following services which are currently hosted on my FreeBSD server here using Bastille jails for each service.
I have a reverse proxy, nginx for web, git and cgit in another, Syncthing, Radicale. So 5 jails in total. The questions I have are wouold you try run all of those on base OpenBSD or use vmm for each like I do with bastille ?
Also how would #Snac perform in a vmm virtual machine using only 1 CPU compared to being in a multi core CPU jail on FreeBSD ??
The FreeBSD server has a i7-4790 (8) @ 3.60 GHz with 16Gb ram

I tell you as much as I like FreeBSD there's just something about it or the way it's going seeming very Linuxy if you know what I mean ? Don't get me wrong I like both Linux and FreeBSD, Ahhh ignore me I don't know what I'm trying to say or feeling but well ???
OpenBSD could very well end up being on the cards for my homelab.

I'm a #Neovim user but those voices in my head keep trying to persuade me to use #Vim instead. I've spent days reading folks configs and reasons for and against and no I'm not considering Vi, Ed or the church. I've tried Helix too and it's just not suited the back to my roots style. I'm loving #OpenBSD with ksh and I don't know why but Vim just keeps calling. Think the only way to resolve this would be to run both side by side ??? I guess I'm just showing my age by going old school. #RunBSD

Success ! I'm now back on current aka 16th November amd64 snapshot using an encrypted boot and everything works. #OpenBSD :openbsd: :runbsd:

Maybe run root# sysupgrade -s http://ftp.hostserver.de/archive/2021-10-09-0105/ but obviously swap out the URL for one mentioned in Solenes blog from the snapshot archives ?

No iodeos pre installs thunderbird and comaps amongst other. So I'm wondering wether I should just remove most preinstalled apps and install them properly via F-Droid as I'd quite like to keep them on the latest updates ?

I've a question about #IodeOS pre installed apps. I noticed #comaps is there but it doesn't show in #Fdroid as installed. So does that mean I'm going to miss out on updates and have to wait for IodeOS system updates ???

Well the Linux IodeOS installer didn't work so I'm going old school on the Wife's Arch Linux laptop and using adb although I could have done on my #OpenBSD machines but I started with the intention of using their Linux installer.

Right OK so I've ordered a USB C memory stick to backup my apps and data on my #Fairphone 4 and then I think I am going to install #IodeOS as it has basically similar apps to what i installed onto #CalyxOS . I've also been reading up on peoples reviews abd it seems a fairly safe bet. I did look at eOS but it doesn't feel the right fit for my needs. So i better go follow @nprofile…eqcl to stay up to date wirh the news. Hopefully the memory stick arrives tomorrow and i can get the ball rolling.

Going to have to make a decision about CalyxOS no longer updating due to issues and they're on hold until God knows when and even then you've to do a complete fresh install. So do I wait for them or do I try #IodeOS on my Fairphone 4 ? I don't want to go back to LineageOS again as my UK banking apps won't work with an unlocked bootloader.

Still trawling through eBay to find a sas/sata raid card in pcie format that i could use on #OpenBSD with 2 x sata ssd drives ?
I'm thinking of turning the Dell Optiplex 3080 Tower into a server for things like web, cgit/git, syncthing and radicale plus possibly my snac instance ? It has 32Gb ram plus a 1Tb nvme which would house the os and the raid woukd be for data. Tell me I'm mad. 🙄

10 hour round trip with 1.5 hours working and half an hour to grab a sandwich and some juice. But I'm home now and absolutely shattered plus feeling achy and sweaty. Feels like flu to me. Anyway I got the autopilot repaired onboard the Venture BF in Kinlochbervie. Some pictures of the steering rams where i was swapping out a faulty rudder feedback unit and the bridge.

Decided to see how the WiFi was on my #ThinkPad P14s Gen 1 AMD using an AX200 and it works perfectly ! I get 300 x 100 on WiFi versus 970 by 100 on my lan FTTH connection. So I'm quite impressed. #OpenBSD :openbsd: :runbsd:

Got my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 working on #OpenBSD and have it chose that when it's connected and the ThinkPads audio when it's not. Yeah I'm easily pleased I know. ;)

I don't think that my poor cat Bella who is 18 is going to make the night ? She is just lying on her side in a towel and doesn't even move with very shallow breathing. I'm cut up and she is my cat who loved the kids and could hear a packet of ham open from miles away. We're due to go on holiday to Majorca tomorrow too. I love my cat ❤️

Fancying a new logo for my self hosted sites and other stuff. Not sure it would be allowed and I'm not really sure that I could even draw it properly ?
Tell me if it's a bad idea though but I thought about a drawing in the style of girl from the fantastic #AnalogueNowhere only with my ginger hair and brown eyes with FISH aka Puffy next to me. Obviously nothing too big possibly just a head shot as my avatar or something that would fit in my sites replacing the current BSD Tux logo on my web and git repo ? The background would have to be totally transparent in png format too so it could easily be used in various places.
Stupid idea ?? Probably my head has plenty of those...

Been busy packing our suitcases today ready for our holiday in Majorca at the weekend. Got the daughters arranged to look after the house and cats and hopefully we have thought of every eventuality. But my head is quite good at saying "Hey did you pack that" or "What if?" so I'm busy trying to ignore me.
When I get back I think I'm give to give Wayland on #OpenBSD another shot. I'm going to see if I can successfully build MangoWC and the likes of WLSunset ? Don't get me wrong I love HerbstluftWM but I do think that #Wayland is the future especially when you see that even OpenBSD has wlroots-0.19 in their repo.

Son in law asked to borrow our lawn mower as his is allegedly buried under his stairs. Half an hour later we get a call saying it's not working. The actual Muppet only tried to cut sodden 2ft high grass with the fly mower and burnt it out. I said he'd toasted it and should have strimmed it first and you know what he did ?
He just laughed. I was raging internally but kept my cool which was really difficult. I sometimes wonder about the future generations lack of skills and common sense.
Appologies if I've offended anyone with this rant but well I needed to offload. 🙄
