Agreed. Anonymity is very important. Embedding your identity into an OS can lead to massive privacy issues if not now…eventually.
This is why open source matters so much. As long as I can download an OS for free stuff like this becomes very hard to enforce.

I closed the butterflies I put on yesterday for, basically, break even. I could have stayed and waited it out, but I'd rather just move on, put on something new next week and not take the weekend risk. But it would have been ok to leave it on...it wasn't in bad shape, I just didn't feel like dealing with it. My trades are cattle, not pets.

Yeah, it's not the most convenient way to do it...I have to download the code it gives me via the web browser...but it's generating code.
I may end up buying a pro license, only because I'm playing with it more and the limits are becoming a thing. But we'll see. But just to get your feet wet, the free tier is pretty good.

I’ve been playing with Claude quite a bit lately…pretty impressive. Still getting by on the free tier but I can see how they get folks to pay.
it will be interesting if they can actually make money. It’s going to be tough competing with the likes of Google and Microsoft who can subsidize their engines with large profits from other divisions. I could easily see them getting bought out by someone like IBM, Oracle, or even Dell. I don’t see any of those as good for the product but good for the investors.

My calendars from Thursday closed today for a bit over 8%. Even with the wide swings this morning, the trade never got into trouble. The IV spike kept the trade in a good position, then the rise helped close it. A roller coaster to be sure, but it was quite resilient.

It’s only been since the 80s that skaters (i.e. not goalies) have been required to wear helmets. And whenever they implement a rule like that it’s only for new players, the rest are grandfathered. Rod Langway was the last player in the NHL to play without a helmet.
It’s a cultural thing in the NHL. Serious head injuries aren’t as common as other collision sports with the current helmet s most are cuts, bruises, nose breaks and, of course, the stereotypical front teeth.
Besides, how do you punch a guy in the jaw if there’s a cage there? That’s why goalie fights are rare and kind of funny.

I think so. Alex is all aboard the nostr train these days. Sad as I still run it on my instance. Not sure how easy it would be to move to another project without losing everything. Maybe Pleroma since the backend codebases are similar?

What adoption? Crypto hasn’t has wide spread adoption as any kind of currency. The number of transactions are insignificant compared to national currencies.
The world isn’t going to standardize on a single currency of any kind. I’m sorry, it just won’t. Most people need centralized systems because they aren’t responsible enough to really run things on their own and they don’t want to even if they could. Do you honestly think that a system that relies on people properly storing and protecting their keys is sustainable?
Lots of good ideas don’t scale. Remember when they were trying to get everyone to wear masks to stop the spread of COVID? That was doomed. Can masks work? Yes, they work in hospitals. Why? Because you have a very small number of well trained professionals using them. But that system doesn’t scale to the general public. Crypto is similar. Could it work within a small community of enthusiasts who really understand it? Sure. But that system won’t scale.
I absolutely get the idea of a decentralized private financial system. I appreciate the ideas and motivations behind it. But I also live in the real world and know that such a system won’t scale to tens of millions yet alone billions of people.
Another great example is where we are right now…the Fediverse. I love and appreciate the concept. I run my own instances. I get it. It makes sense to me. I also know that mass adoption isn’t going to happen. Most people don‘t care enough to be here. They like the simplicity of the centralized services even though they are literally the product. Such is the way of the world.
Look, you can buy all the BCH you want and I sincerely hope it goes up and you make solid gains from it. But it is absolutely not going to get widespread adoption to come close to being a true alternative to national currencies, yet alone become the single global currency. I think I’ve made a very solid case that has not been refuted with any actual evidence…just “it will someday…”.

Europe has tried to unite behind a single currency…it hasn’t gone well. The member states‘ economies are too different…and that’s just Europe. You are claiming you can do the worldwide? Because the US should use the same currency as Cambodia and Zimbabwe? That is pure delusion. Sometimes things haven’t been done for a reason.
Doing what everything all other coins do is not a reason to adopt it. You need more than that. Otherwise there’s no reason to change.

An interesting theory, but Pokemon cards are, essentially, a collectible. That market is very tough because the majority of the items end up worthless. I remember TV ad (back when I watched regular TV) for all sorts of things that were supposed to be valuable some day…civil war plate sets, silly physical coins, beanie babies. Guess how much they are all worth 30 years later? Essentially nothing, certainly not what the people paid for them. Can you strike it rich in collectibles? Sure. But it’s a bit of a crap shoot as to what people will want a few decades from now.

One needs to pick an argument. You can’t say it’s valuable because it’s limited in supply then in the next breath say once the supply is depleted another coin will be more valuable.
It you see crypto as a currency, then its value is what you can trade that currency for and how easy that is. In that race USD blows BTC away. USD has more transactions for things that are not USD in a day than BTC has in a year
As a spec trade I get it. But it’s not a real currency.

Exactly no one actually did. People bought btc because number go up. To the extent that there is utility in BTC (or any crypto for that matter) that utility isn’t worth much monetarily.
The problem is that these projects have a super low barrier to entry so even if one finds a good utility use case, there’s an infinite number of identical (or nearly identical) projects that can spawn quickly to do the same thing. No matter how high demand gets, supply can match or exceed it.
But BTC isn’t infinite. While true it can be infinitely forked. An infinite number of finite sets is still, from an economic point of view, infinite.
I got into this thread more just to put in my thoughts on trading anything, not to endorse or discourage what one is trading.

Every fan base has doomers. This year is different from the last few in that the gap from the bottom to top or especially the bottom to a playoff spot is small for this time of year. It’s really tight in the east but even the west is tighter than usual. My best guess is the salary cap finally going up has helped a lot of teams improve.

The good is the flies from yesterday. Closed them this morning for 8%. Balanced flies work in this type of market.
The ugly: I closed out the long running fly/cal mess. Lost about 30%. Worst trade of the year. Moving on. Should have taken this off earlier.

Next, my calendars I put on Weds. With only being 2 days old, these were tougher. At first I rolled the shorts down 5 points to flatten my deltas. This bought me some time and saved some money as we continued to drop. Finally around 2:30, I closed the whole thing for a 15% loss. It sucks but it could have been worse. This is why risk management is so important.

Busy day away from my desk so, of course, we have a big move.
First, my older calendars: All I've done so far is take off the 3 upper calendars that I put on the upside. This is one reason why I only put on 3...in case we pull back, not as bad of a hit. I might diagonalize it, but not just yet.

Raiders fan here. They may dress up and look mean but the ones I’ve met at games are really nice folks.

We need to correct this obvious injustice. And in the spirit of affirmative action, we must only allow men to get abortions as women have dominated that space for too long and they must be willing to step aside so we can correct the long time institutional biases in our society. For only then can we really achieve equality.
