"Every solar system installed on a roof or balcony generates clean, decentralized power directly on site, bypassing the logistical vulnerabilities of imported fuel and insulated from geopolitical blockades. Because sunshine is ubiquitous and impossible to hoard or blockade, replacing centralized fuel supply chains with distributed solar assets strips petrostates and military aggressors of their primary economic leverage"

Beans? The native "3 sisters" were beans, corn, and squash so that seems like a logical starting point

So jealous! Definitely building one of these ovens in my outdoor kitchen eventually!

For a long time, traditional permaculture never quite resonated with me. Despite sharing its deepest core values regarding the earth and human rights, the movement often felt stale and irrelevant—weighed down by a rigid, anti-technology dogma that treated modern comfort as a sin. It felt like the only accepted path was an ascetic retreat to a shack in the woods.
But I’m finally finding my way to true permaculture principles through a much more optimistic, tech-forward lens.
A massive turning point for me was finding Brad Lancaster’s pragmatic work on rainwater harvesting. He proves that we don't need to fear modern tools; we can use them to elegantly amplify biological systems and design abundance.
When you pair that ecological design with the solar optimism Bill McKibben outlines in his new book Here Comes the Sun, the ultimate missing piece falls into place. Modern green tech isn't an exploitation of the earth—it’s our liberation.
The ability to decouple our lives from the fossil fuel industry has tremendous implications. It isn't just about healing the climate and the environment; it completely rewrites our politics. We are witnessing the ultimate democratization of energy. Instead of a few elites and oligarchs hoarding power, infinite energy is suddenly decentralized and available to everyone.
If sustainable living requires us to surrender our modern dignity and downgrade our lives, it will never scale. But by pairing ancient techniques (like earth building and passive water harvesting) with modern solar arrays, battery banks, and global connectivity, we aren't regressing. We are building a high-tech, regenerative standard of living that people will actually want to adopt.
That is how this becomes a mass movement. That is how we change the world. ☀️🌱🔋

Lutnick was Jeffrey Epstein's neighbor in NYC who hung out with him and tried to lie about it. Guess you can understand why he's in Trump's cabinet.

We got 3/8ths inch in the storm that came down Sunday/Monday early morning hours! A good drenching for us here

Great quote from a great thinker! Taking control of our shelter, water, and food needs is not only great for our local resilience but also subversive to the political and economic status quo! Do it for reason #1is enough to motivate me, but maybe also saving the world if enough people follow is a great secondary selling point!

Superadobe just like Rich! But more in the style of Sam's house where we plan to connect a long rectangular room to the dome bedroom instead of many domes interconnected!

I am using that exact same UPS for my remote work station & maintaining my starlink connection. Had it for about 4 months and definitely a fan

I will say that my mind is still blown by the Amish using off grid solar for things like lighting, etc. I have heard people around these parts talk about living the "modern Amish" lifestyle as a way to convey they want the slow life but are willing to use tech that helps achieve that goal.

Only been back on nostr a few days now, and I have already been reminded of the human tendency to gravitate to confirmation bias, reflexive contrarianism, and defending their existing mental models.
It's not just corporate algorithms amplifying outrage, polarization, and echo chambers. It's us, too.
Time to put in the work to curate my feed by muting the pedants! Have fun arguing in the wind.

Electric grinder with manual grinder as a backup. Manual grinder also comes on camping trips.

Interesting take! The definition of technology doesn't just cover electricity and microchips, so I'm not entirely convinced. I also just learned that some Amish are okay with off grid solar: https://anabaptistworld.org/amish-embrace-solar-power/

6/Southeastern Arizona has quietly become one of the most exciting living laboratories for practical resilience.
Decentralized software meets decentralized dirt. If you’re building at this intersection in the high desert, let’s connect.

5/Shelter & Physical Infrastructure.
Out here in Cochise County, our Owner-Builder Opt-Out allows us to step outside standard cookie-cutter codes and build creatively. A growing natural building community has taken root but there are others seeking freedom to build however they want too! Sovereignty over the physical means of shelter.

4/ Layer 2: Energy.
Distributed solar and battery storage turn every rooftop and homestead into a sovereign micro-utility. Avoid utility monopolies, hedge against rising grid costs, not subsidizing AI data centers.

3/ Layer 1: Communications.
Protocols over platforms. Running on Nostr means our identity belongs to us, not corporate servers or algorithm gatekeepers. Uncensorable, peer-to-peer digital coordination.

2/Digital freedom tech is only half the battle. If your comms protocol is decentralized but your power, shelter, and local supply chain have single points of failure, you aren’t truly resilient.
True independence is a full-stack engineering problem.

1/Great intro to nostr at the first @npub1yu4ah80r8mntvcp5kqpmxlad2zfy0c8l253xjdwu56z2tacp9sfscqgg3z meetup last night by @nprofile…6fhd and @nprofile…7yua !
We have a very exciting confluence of threads that are all tying neatly together here in Cochise County. 🧵👇
