I understand it needs to happen in the middle of nowhere and I agree it needs to happen there. Right now the US is an east coast megalopolis and a west coast megalopolis with the middle of the country being, effectively, a void of nothingness.
What's the incentive? It'd take a Google-sized company to build a new HQ and a new major metropolitan area over the course of 20-30 years. Unlikely to happen because the tech talent is largely on the coasts.

Where do you live? I live in the #Boston area. Organic growth over design. So densely populated, there's nowhere to build. No new roads, no new high speed rail, yet plenty of high rises and skyscrapers. It is a *highly* desired section of the country and people keep moving in.
I agree proper urban design matters, including universal design principles. But do you have examples where this is happening? Because it's *definitely* not in the northeast.

It's not that cities are bad and suburbs are good, it's poor urban design. As a parent of a child who is fully disabled and uses a wheelchair, navigating the outside world SUCKS. Supporting people with mobility differences is an afterthought, if at all. Scalable systems-based solutions based on universal design are what's needed. Solutions proposed in this thread, like ending cars and cities are unrealistic and just as ableist.

The far right is disgusting on so many levels. Like #Nazism, #MAGA is autocannabalizing. A toxic circle jerking echo chamber built on lies, contradictions, and conspiracy theories. Standing for nothing, only the most extreme views are the ones to "survive." Anything that is remotely close to being rational is immediately silenced. Those who've subscribed to such garbage have willfully abandoned critical thinking, or are (now and will be) victims of the lack of education.

#Trump recently picked Ed Martin as the next Chief of Staff at the Office of Management and Budget. Martin is a hardline social #conservative who has advocated for a national #abortion ban without exceptions for rape, incest, or in the case of saving the mother's #life.

Some people don't realize they have a choice. Some people don't know what an operating system is. I know both types of people (mostly family) and while they are excellent candidates for desktop #Linux sometimes I get the impression it's more trouble than it's worth to switch them to Linux.
