don't worry everyone. codeberg is down, but thankfully, we all collectively, wisely invested in version control technology that stores issue metadata, merge request metadata, and user account metadata in the same decentralized manner as the code, so we can continue to work like normal, and periodically synchronize with each other, peer-to-peer style
good thing we didn't foolishly all get used to using a separate DB for metadata that causes vendor lock in and requires high web server uptime

Zig 0.16.0 is tagged. Release notes are just about completed and will be published in about 20 hours when the tarballs finish building.
As it turns out, it takes a while to build LLVM 27 times on one computer! That's how many different targets we provide compiler binaries for now - all cross compiled from one host.

Thanks to bypassing the C/C++ API for constructing LLVM modules and instead building .bc files directly in memory, Zig's LLVM backend now supports incremental compilation.
You'll still have to wait ages for LLVM to convert bitcode into object files, but at least you'll get instant type checking!

@nprofile…xyvy thanks, I read the paper just now and it helped me to understand why some measurements were favorable and others not - specifically the pattern of one thread allocating and another thread freeing in my simple design will result in ever-growing RSS
I know I "should" start with the paper but for me papers are too boring until I've already tried from first principles

last night I had an idea for a fast multi-threaded allocator, whipped it up, and at first glance it outperforms glibc.
need to do some more testing, but it's looking good so far
it's only 212 lines of code!
