Our ground temps have been too cool to get planting outside much. We have our first no dig beds ready and waiting. Next week I think it will be warm enough.
I bought a pile of native plant seeds, and i am today refining where they will all go. We had a blank slate yard last year, and did some basic planting. Now we're adjusting and filling in with more natives for the birds, bees, and beauty.
We could use some rain!

Excellent things going on in the garden.
Since we planted some sticks with roots that are supposed to be columnar apples, we are thrilled leaves and flowers starting! The grapes we planted last year should have roots, but the doggone bunny chewed on one of them over winter. Glad they have leaves starting! And I forgot the daffs I bought last year included some mini daff bulbs. They bloomed when we had 2 80 degree days. Hope everything will be OK tomorrow night near freezing.

Our HOA forbids them.
Of course, you can work around such nonsense, but it takes some effort.
It's ridiculous that Americans will put solar on the roof, drive hybrid or electric cars, but fully reject clotheslines.

I started some seeds last week. I'm ridiculously happy as the sprouts appear. I was just doing a happy dance on the front lawn because the daffodil and tulip bulbs I planted in the fall are showing up!
I started a tray of nasturtiums and petunias. Also basil. Melons in peat pots. All sprouting well. No peppers have sprouted yet. Or chives. Fingers crossed.
What are you sowing first?

I may have bought too many seeds this year.
I mostly put perennials in to start last year. I now have some annuals to put on the plan. And veg for some new raised beds.
And some more perennials.
And some native bushes.
And that's after I put in 3 columnar apples, some ornamental grasses, and planted tulips, daffodils, and crocuses.
I need to find a compost dealer. I mean a compost source.
Tell me this is normal?
Is this just the effect of the dark days of winter?

Even years ago I carried two phones. One for work only. Employer never touched my private phone. I can recommend this practice. It's easier to walk away from work after hours, too.

Ohh! The Dark Eyed Juncos have returned for the winter! I spotted my first one today. He was checking out the changes in the back yard. I'm sure he misses the bird feeders. 🐦
He will like the flower heads and grasses we left. And he's always welcome to all the bugs. I sure hope he has a taste for the spiders, because we have a ton of them!

The heavy wind this week had us replacing a piece of siding that blew off the house. Moving a ladder around bushes, I found these galls. Clearly empty, but I wonder what #insect made these. I suspect a wasp of some kind, because they are commonly seen on this side of the house.
One is a chokeberry bush, the other is a Virginia Sweetspire.
Any help identifying these is appreciated!

I've not yet been to #Portland OR. But I live in a very connected time.
Just searched for live webcams in #PDX and boy howdy there are many!
Some show you a review of the last 24 hrs up to live shots. Some show live traffic, some downtown spots, some panoramic views. Very cool.
Saw some serious traffic last night on interstates. Beautiful day today. Boats on the water, people at a fest, normal traffic everywhere.
The description of Portland as war ravaged is BS. I have seen it with my own eyes.

It's almost a year that we've been living in the country. We were doing weeding and yard work this morning. Neighbors walk dogs and chat. Very little car traffic. Bambi enjoyed her breakfast in full view at the edge of the woods. Birdsong all day long. Frogs everywhere. The great blue heron frequenting our pond has a neighborhood name now. He's Seymour, as in 'we like to SeeMore of him'.

Retired, married many decades, recently moved to a blue state. I mostly boost an eclectic mix of others toots.

Yes! Meet my sister. Mom caught Rubella @ 3months pregnant. No vaccine was yet available. Sis is mentally and emotionally a perpetual teenager. Physically handicapped all her life, and progressively so in her 60's.
My parents and I protected and guided her as best we could.
Many lives will be forever impacted.
