Let's start with the premise that all the millions of hours of video Tesla has gathered from its vehicles driving about has any real value to training a self-driving system.
Those best positioned to know say it has almost no value at all.

Mom is 77 and has voted in every election I can recall, like since I was a little kid. She is REALLY into exercising all of her rights and especially this one. It's just so sad and frustrating and fits perfectly with how things happen in Texas all too often.

Here's one Texas voter who has been disenfranchised:
Mom, who lives north of Austin, can't physically go to a polling place, so she requested a ballot by mail weeks ago.
Never got it. Monday she managed to talk to an actual person to ask where it was. They said it hadn't been sent yet.
Today she checked the VoteTexas site and she's been marked as having never requested one in the first place.
Probably the last election she'll be able to vote in, and she's been denied that right.

Here’s the result, alongside a reproduction of Franklin’s original model. It doesn’t use a continuous flow of electricity, like all modern electric motors. Instead, it relies on the attraction and repulsion of electric poles.

For nearly 300 years, a weird kind of electric motor that works on static electricity has been little more than a scientific and engineering curiosity.

every morning when I sit down to check social media, I set a kitchen timer for 10 minutes; inevitably, I blow past that and have to add another 5. sometimes, with regret and a twinge of shame, I reset it for another 5 minutes or even another 10.
then I turn on Freedom (blocks all my distractions) and get on with my work.
it's the only thing that works for me & I've long since given up trying to limit my time in places like this any other way.

Absolutely incredible example of the fragility of global supply chains with single points of failure: Hurricane Helene may damage the world's ability to make microchips.
That's because the crucibles used to create ingots of silicon which become microchips are made from an ultra-pure quartz sand -- and 70% of the world's supply comes from just one place in North Carolina.
That mine is now knocked offline thanks to hurricane Helene.

Second, why it’s so hard to maintain the things we depend on for our very existence:
An aging workforce. The reluctance of young people to take on these jobs. (They pay well, but who wants to become a maintenance engineer just to work in the heat all day and get filthy? And who wants to work on old stuff?)
Enter automation.
What if the most tedious and dangerous parts of these jobs could be done by robots overseen by people?

for people serious about ergonomics, I should add that to make this keyboard actually ergonomic I had to:
1. elevate the leading edge of the keyboard to give it the correct pitch (that is, with the back of the keyboard slightly down)
2. buy a thick neoprene wrist wrest and use an x acto knife to cut it to fit snug against the bottom of this keyboard

@npub1sc0…duc3 oh I say do whatever works for you, for everyone it's so different, I think? one thing I like about mastodon, it feels like we're having more individualized experiences where Twitter tended to homogenize them... there are no 'main characters' on here, you know what I mean? feels like a more diverse set of interactions for us all...

@npub1sc0…duc3 100% 'cause of chronological feed. once you get more than a couple hundred follows whatever you see is random anyway, and so I'm happy to just dip in occasionally, there's no feeling of being overwhelmed by the feed for me anymore...
