a while back (over 5 years ago) I wasn't able to use mesa with nvidia without all sorts of problems. was forced to install their proprietary drivers and even just getting those working was a miserable experience
meanwhile I've always just used the mesa stack with AMD
AFAIK all vendors have proprietary firmware blobs. other than that, what part of the mesa AMD driver stack isn't FOSS?
that being said intel seems to be the only game in town for an actual reliable it-just-works no matter the hardware model FOSS driver stack

about the only thing I can agree with is that there's a need to mitigate DoS attacks but that can be done on an as needed basis with simple proof of work solutions. kiwifarms has been back online for quite a while after all and there is approximately zero excuse for a state government website to be less resilient than kiwifarms

@npub1aw2…70dd government use of captchas (and analytics) hosted by third parties never sat well with me. these are government services, there's no other game in town and in many cases I am more or less forced to make use of them
they also "protect" the weirdest things against "bots" I mean if it were just the final submission page for various forms I would at least understand the motivation but often it's random informational pages or even worse something that's ALREADY BEHIND A LOGIN WTF
although in this case I suspect the entire thing stems from that one guy who scraped more or less all the available cases in the entire US and then (iirc) made them freely available and indexed things like names. but public is public so he did nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned

@npub1h29…e6w6 @npub1dkf…z4wz nigger that is a 68 page document from some european government agency. that's got just about zero to do with anything in the US
what point were you trying to make? because I guarantee you that if your claim is "we should show third graders diagrams of how to make use of dildos in school" that there will be plenty of people who disagree with you and that they won't give a single shit if some government office hired a specialist to author a report about the merits of teaching third graders who attend public school how to use dildos
and that's before we get to the even more controversial stuff like whether trannies are roleplaying or if that's actual biology and WTF the word "gender" supposedly means. a lot of people view that as nothing more than brainwashing (or as they say grooming) children at this point and tbh I'm increasingly inclined to agree with them

who said anything about that? what are you disputing here?
in practice I expect you will have difficulty getting people to agree what qualifies as discrimination at this point. many on the far left seem to think that affirmative action can do no wrong

2024-03-20 04:07:16 UTC

- reply

@npub1h29…e6w6 @npub1dkf…z4wz I suspect the issue here might be that a lot of people don't accept that things such as "how to use a dildo" or "here's how transsexual stuff works" qualify as biology at all. but these are arguments of definition and so are rarely if ever interesting or worthwhile to have
now if what you want to say is that "sex ed should cover how to use a dildo" you have a concrete position that you can examine. and one of the questions that's going to come up is "at what age level would that be appropriate to cover?"
hopefully you can see where the controversy arises in all of this

there are a few who object to "basic biology", certainly. not many in my experience
the stuff that's actually controversial has little to do with basic biology. the objections tend to be that the material is not age appropriate, or that the material is not in fact "basic biology" at all

@npub1h29…e6w6 @npub1dkf…z4wz based on my personal experience this post is entirely wrong
browse poast for a few minutes and follow some of the screenshots of news articles back to the source to verify for yourself that the mainstream media in the US regularly contains examples of those words being used in ways that do not align with the dictionary definitions you posted above
while I certainly can't speak to _all_ sex ed programs in the US I can say that your portrayal does not even remotely match what I myself had in public school quite a while ago. the material for many of them, including the more recent controversial ones, can be viewed online if you feel like it
tl;dr you are either not from the US, or you are _extremely_ out of touch, or you are intentionally pushing an agenda. I'm not sure which

the last one there's plenty of real world examples of people objecting that sex ed is being taken too far in various ways being labeled as homophobic (among other things)

@npub1rv2…pvwv @npub1enz…e904 it's not (necessarily) that manipulative is negative (I do nearly always see it that way tho) but rather that it ascribes a particular intent regarding behavior towards the other party
my point is that even in the event that you specifically decide NOT to attempt to manipulate the other party, refraining from a common social practice will generally leave you at a disadvantage. so I figure it's perfectly reasonable to imitate others with the intent to fit in so to speak
similarly, are perfume and cologne manipulative? or even just antiperspirant for that matter. humans don't naturally smell that way. I think it comes down to context and intent

that's surprisingly easy for wood frame houses. they can't withstand much pressure differential at all. for an example of this see images of suburban neighborhoods after a natural gas explosion
> the bulletproof glass would've just been "glass,"
I'm not even sure if you need bulletproof glass. some of the polymer laminates can withstand a 2x4 hitting it at a couple hundred miles an hour. as long as whatever it's mounted to doesn't give out you should be good for just about anything

actually you can easily DIY a wood base. the type of thing they serve flights in at a tap room

the drug is long since out of your system. the issue is twofold. that some medications (antidepressants are one of them) tend to cause long term changes in your brain. this is how they work after all
the second issue is specific to SSRIs and often not known by medical professionals. they work by inducing epigenetic changes (ie long term regulation of gene expression). some of those changes will revert quickly but some will take many years or may even be with you for life

@npub1utx…lwpc @npub17jq…v996 I posted this yesterday in more detail but these headlines are misleading to what appears to be an intentional degree. this isn't about pseudoephedrine (sudafed) and diphenhydramine (benadryl) it's about phenylephrine (sudafed-pe-or-something) and some benadryl branded liquid cocktail (benadryl-whatever-the-fuck)
meth labs happened, they put pseudoephedrine behind the counter (requires photo id to purchase), OTC was replaced with the new stuff that they swore worked just as well. it didn't work nearly as well (because of course it didn't). the research showed it was shitty in comparison. they denied it was shitty. now nearly 20 years later they're finally admitting that, yeah, it doesn't really work very well at all
 fuck the medical bureaucracy

did you have a subpoena? :smug_miku: so many of the complaints seemed to amount to "you gave info to the cops" as though there's an expectation they should break the law on your behalf
what's actually crazy is that they retained a code but didn't (apparently) widely advertise this fact
