Yeah, I largely agree with you, college is the easier path for most people. Maybe 10 years ago it was enough to build something cool and post it on Github, but then the H1Bs figured it out and ruined that hiring signal. Now you need to have a project with thousands of stars and tons of activity for it to matter.
Where can you pick up a BSCS in less than a year though? The fastest I've seen is 2-3 at some colleges that focus on online learning.

Depends on how much Twitter actually makes in the EU. I could see Musk pulling out if they gave him a bad enough ultimatum. Eg. if they demand $250 million a year in funding for preventing hate speech and they are only pulling in $200 million, he might just say screw it.

Yeah... definitely good to be careful but the switch to safetensors improved the security situation a lot. The ckpt files use pickle under the hood, and it's trivially exploitable. There is a giant warning on the Python docs page even. docs.python.org/3/library/pickle.html

The whole thing is a bit of a joke. They don't let you select the easy paths (US college graduate visa, family reunification, H1B, etc). And then throws a million details at you that realistically would be handled by your company for a work visa, or some government-funded immigration attorney for refugees.

The quiz is a complete joke as well. I tried to fill it out as a software developer named Chad from the United Kingdom, and it was around 50 questions of bullshit. Starting with not giving the option of H1B right off the bat. For anyone with a degree, that's by far the easiest immigration path and the employer does 99% of the work.

Yeah at that point it's a battle of ISR, cruise missile strikes, drone strikes on air defense systems, etc. And I'm sure we have adapted to prepare for that. But it's much more difficult to wargame how well we would perform against defenses like that. Maybe we manage to hit key components with cruise missiles and it all collapses like with Desert Storm, or maybe it's more resilient than we expected and we take unacceptable losses. There's a lot of uncertainty that will never be resolved unless we actually pull the trigger.

Doesn't the Russian doctrine basically assume that they would lose head to head in air combat and sit behind a ton of layered S300 and S400 air defense systems? If they can't win, they can at least try to deny use of the airspace, and the loss of air support would make NATO combined arms tactics much less effective.
Not necessarily saying it's a winning strategy, but they are at least self-aware enough to adapt their tactics according to the reality of combat craft strength.

Think about this from the perspective of say a 23 year-old who just graduated college, who made some bad decisions and ran up say $25k in CC debt.
- Insurance companies? Sure, credit score is a variable but it's a much smaller factor than claim history and age/gender.
- Bank loan officers? The only loan they are getting is a secured car loan, and Nissan will approve them.
- Startup investors? They run standard background checks, but many of them would consider bankruptcy a badge of honor.
- Security clearance? Yes, but average Joe isn't applying to work at the FBI.
My point is that there is less incentive for young people to keep their score high. The main reason used to be qualifying for a mortgage, so if young people don't have realistic goals of buying a house in the next 5-10 years, the system starts looking awfully shaky.

They don't want you to know this, but bankruptcy is free. I have 143 unpaid credit card bills.
Seriously though a lot of young people will just go "fuck it, I'm not buying a house anytime in the next 10 years, might as well run up the CC bill and do Chapter 7". The entire threat is based on a number that is largely meaningless to people outside of mortgage applications.
