oh that's not even the worst shit they're doing, they're also causing intentional car crashes (literally slamming into people) so that they can stop them and ask for their papers. (based on "suspicion" over skin color and accent). Literally breaking windows and dragging people out to "sort out later" in federal detention over them looking or sounding "foreign", after destroying their car and injuring them.
There are abandoned/destroyed cars everywhere the city is cleaning up.

I just hope a lot of them can be saved and get back to normal at some point. They're getting illegally raided left and right and disappeared down to the texas detention centers. One of ICE's "tactics" up here is to eat at a restaurant and instead of paying the bill round up the staff and kidnap them afterwards.

can confirm, lutefisk is sold at a bunch of stores and restaurants here. All of MN but especially Minneapolis has not only stuff like that but fantastically diverse food and arts districts, which are also the spots being targeted the hardest by those nazi pricks.

it's an important distinction though that ICE are decidedly NOT cops. The goon squads they have going around are almost entirely from out of state, most from TX and FL. If you haven't seen the "recruitment" drive they're grabbing anyone who wants to go harass brown people and tossing them up here within days with a badge, gun, and cash bonus, hired street thugs sent to cause chaos and "punish" MN for pushing for the epstein files release. team fortress, day of defeat, and many other popular multiplayer games from that time were all little third party mods that valve approached the authors of to distribute officially, I have some of the GOTY CDs that included early versions of a bunch of them wayyy before steam was a thing.
What's wild is most of the early versions were cut down after they were moved to steam (lots of missing animation/sounds/etc) I would assume to get the file sizes down.

crysostasis sounded really really familiar even though I never played it and now I know why, it was the game that every nvidia demo was showing off that year since it was the poster child for the cuda/physx integration and showed absolutely wild particle physics.

youtube is 99% clickbait where the video has little to do with the picture and title these days, it was so much better when videos auto-generated their thumbnail. (Freetube uses dearrow to fix that thankfully)
I don't watch much on there anymore (mostly stuff like ZSR races and longplays) but it's annoying that people just refuse to post videos anywhere else.

you picked a bad day to try it, I've run it for years and it's definitively the best way to watch youtube. Unfortunately youtube JUST updated and broke the api today, freetube/invidious normally patch it within a day or so. It's a constant game of catch-up, youtube tries to block external apps and ad blockers so they all need to reverse engineer and put out a patch every time youtube does.

the US, but in an area that actually has a lot of trains/light rail/busses. Don't get me wrong, they're great if you're going within the city between downtown and...well other parts of downtown to the airport/etc, The trains that go to the outskirts/town to town only run once/twice a day and are so spaced out you're basically guaranteed to need a car there to pick you up (they're really mostly for commuters, not really useful for visiting if you don't live there)

well, privacy, also safety and flexible schedule, not ending service at 7pm with the closest stations about 8 blocks from anywhere you need to get to would get me taking them more often. (It annoys me to no end i have a bus stop and train station within 3 blocks of my house and neither goes anywhere remotely useful for me). And unfortunately small rail cars don't really fix that second issue

it's actually kinda crazy when you look back at z2 and realize just how much variety they managed to pack into the enemies and dungeons, with everything having seemingly unique behavior. (though the reality is it's derived from everything having a handful of properties on how to behave and the behaviors are from mixing those)
It's still just such a fun game to play, the combat is SO good.

I'd love for there to be more VR games, I love the medium, but these days half of what comes out is a facebook exclusive that only works on their headsets through their store, and they're pushing everything to be subscription only. It's led to a weird market where if you want more than 30% of players to be able to run it your target has to be cheap mobile phone hardware, so it's primarily become a market of cheap minigames sold at full price.

testbed setup complete! took WAYYY longer than planned (mostly thanks to #popOS and #freebsd deciding to be a pain). Now I can just shunt a build over to any of them to make sure I didn't break anything. (they're all as close to default setup as possible)

Just found a single slot radeon rx550, exactly what i'd been looking for to complete my workstation, as much as I love this computer and the amd processor blows my old intel out of the water the last year has been rough not having the build in second video card.
It's freaking hard to find a decent single slot card with decent enough performance though, even the cheap budget cards now are either 2 or 2.5 slot!
Also means I can drive 4 more monitors, hmmm...

Third chart, using the accelerated rendering api again but NOT using any of the rendering functions, only using update texture to manually copy across bitmap data after writing it manually. This was the overall most efficient at drawing pixels for all but the software driver, which surprised me somewhat as it shouldn't be different from the basic surface drawing. GLES2 was in general faster again.

Second chart, it gets a little more interesting when looking at the time of execution of the SDL_Renderer accelerated drawing functions, there's a MASSIVE skew between drivers with this one. the SDL_Gpu based driver (the default one) took an order of magnitude longer per call, and the vulkan driver has a memory bug and won't complete at all with larger numbers of calls, and was also noticeably slower. GL,GLES2, and Software were all very similar.

First chart is basic drawing with SDL_Surface, disabling all other functionality. (the basic_surface on the graph has acceleration disabled via hint, the others specify driver)
Not too much spread on this one but unaccelerated and software were reliably fastest (as expected) though gles2 was very close.

Tier list of my findings on the functionality and speed of all the #SDL3 backends for the use of pixel pushing/raw operations from my recent benchmark tests (I have actual data but...it's a lot, haven't made a decent graph yet but this sums it up nicely)
Vulkan is actually considerably faster than GPU (gpu is an order of magnitude slower than the others, and it's the default setting), but slower than the others and breaks where the others don't, so it just flat out fails to be useful.

So apparently as of blender 4.1 there's all sorts of add-ons that give it a more cad-like interface...I turned them all on and finally I have a version of blender I can understand and use...after years of struggling and failing to even make a simple 3d model in it I was able to make a simple house in like 15 minutes...
The parts library functionality and prefab functionality is still kinda...meh...but it's a million times more useful to me now than it was.

I know the original "IT" was originally a miniseries but they cut it into a single movie later, deserves to be pretty high on this list :/ Sure it's not perfect but it was pretty good and...i mean...ffs...Tim Curry as IT!
Also no Langoliers either :/
A travesty as well that the shining, the mist, and the running man (don't care it's wildly different, it's a great movie) are so far down.
Don't get me wrong, i like misery and stand by me but #1 and 2?? nah.

i don't dislike the color scheme as a whole but imho it's too dark-on-dark in some places like the dropdowns, it's hard to distinguish where the box actually begins and ends, they could use some sort of a border, maybe just a darker/mid-tone g ray so that it keeps the color theme but you can actually see where objects begin and end.

1. leave a positive review on the steam store talking about the merits of an open source engine to rival unreal/unity
2. increase your donation to the engine for each death threat, spam, etc the alt right trolls send you.

Holy shit is CLion 2024.2 awful...broke a lot of features, things that used to be on the toolbar for quick access are now 4 menus deep, you can't float all the toolbars anymore and can't lock position in workspaces either, they basically tried to make it look as much like vscode as they could and the end product is a laggy IDE that eats up half my screen space with unnecessary crap while the necessary crap is hidden.....

some off the shelf canned brands have caffeinated ones (all the bubblr, some of the Aha, some of the Perrier) but you can also get caffeinated drops or powder singles to mix in if you have your own.

One thing everyone misses out on when not writing their own movement code is all the weird lil bugs that make you laugh. Like apparently for the past 4 weeks or so I had a sign issue in my rotation code that was only affecting left turns (a left turn of, say, 10 degrees would instead rotate you 350 degrees right, technically correct I guess 😂..basically zoolander turns)
I just never noticed it as i never turned left when testing after adding interpolation

it's two plastic wheels with slots and light sensors that detect as each slot passes, the ball itself is just a ball that pushes them (usually by smaller rollers geared to the bigger wheels). A pretty simple machine you can build with off the shelf parts. I hated cleaning those things though, the gunk always went inside and it was a pain...

I wish there were more game jams I could participate in. Annoyingly all the big ones (and most of the small ones) make super restrictive choices like requiring a windows build during the time of the jam, which means you can't do interesting platforms and for those of us not on windows even doing a desktop build means burning 50% of the time on porting. I wish more jams allowed porting to happen post-submission like ludum dare does.

Finished the Elden Ring DLC last night, that final boss felt straight up romhack level bullshit. (disappointing because the rest of the DLC was extremely good) It's difficult but for all the wrong reasons, it's honestly interesting how different it is from everything else in the game.
