For my second entry in #marchintosh is this #spicyPillow in a 2012 Mac Pro. IIRC I picked this up at #EFM #electronicsFleaMarket on the cheap, fully intended for a project but was packed up from the move. Unpacked the box this weekend, and noted the lid being pushed out – and upon opening noted the touchpad broken in half.
I opened it up & pulled out the spicy pillow, installing a spare battery I had on hand. Connected power, and it booted! The touchpad works, but to click/double click you have to push down to make the touchpad level while clicking/double clicking. Time to find a replacement touchpad, and when I do then also max out the RAM while installing an SSD.

Wow. 😿
I met and worked with @npub14zw…lhgy at the NNSA security operations center called the IARC there in Las Vegas in the mid 2000's. We quickly became friends, DJed many events together - including the infamous defcon at Alexis park pool 2 party where a certain web site & legend came into existence. (1) He was a good friend until some shoddy leadership & politics tarnished his perspective and he hated me going forward - activity making my life hell on multiple occasions.
As much as he gave to others, he was also a troubled and complex man. I hate that he is gone, but hopefully has found the peace that he truly deserves.
A fellow cat person. A depth of knowledge and music, an incredible goth/industrial DJ. These are the things I will remember and cherish of my old friend.

(1) Though we were completely unaware of the happenings that night, I truly hope the pool 2 girl has gotten the care and support that she deserves.

VA Palo Alto is one of the better ones from my experiences, but these cuts are making it worse. I would hate to be in one of the shitty VA systems currently, it would be horrible.
And you are correct, privatize the VA would kill veterans - medical professionals outside the VA systems do not know or understand our issues, which equates to a poor quality of care. Ask me how I know....
