I'm not optimistic if the top fedi projects (like Mastodon) cannot see the UX holes that you can drive a truck through. They already have _two_ ways to communicate ideas – their issue trackers and fedi itself – which they apparently ignore in the name of "anti-virality".
There are classes of major UX flaws that a typical Linux enthusiast (aka fedi developer) will insist are minor annoyances. File issues for them and they will be mischaracterized and just sit there for years.

I know this is due to a limitation in Mastodon, but please consider not posting entire articles in small pieces on fedi. A summary (even in 2 or 3 parts) with a link to your blog would suffice. Or you could put the entire thing in one post.
That way my TL would not get that "overrun with replies" look if I followed you. (I used to follow you...)

Skeptics say that the exposure and crime wave curves don't match up in the same way in different locations, but from what I can tell they aren't taking into account the fact that class divisions have very different urban/rural distributions in North America vs Europe.

Very familiar with this. Its a type of narcissism where they are terribly afraid of what others think of them so they fill every moment with their own narrative about themselves. They don't care if you have to hear the exact same spiel hundreds of times, and they get offended if you offer similar stories (not about them) in kind.
Their deep-seated fear and need to talk about themselves tends to obliterate any awareness they would have of others' needs or preferences.

There's also the fact that cryptocurrencies tend to act like sand in the gears of whatever scheme they're attached to. They're full of network effects that transfer wealth upward, acting like a heavy tax on small transactions, beyond what the pyramid structure creates.
But more than that, its deliberately propping up a system that is being used by Russia and N. Korea to evade sanctions.

Seriously, use airplane mode when traveling around town... Stop at Wifi spots to check messages / make calls.
The present-day version of Wifi radios can't easily be tracked, because they randomize their identifiers.

The real success of Uber was tapping into a vast well of cupidity in the working class that worshiped technology; workers that enthusiastically drove for years with steep losses because slick marketing & app feedback stroked their sense of independence.
There are so many examples other than taxis & its all parasitic because no one who's getting ahead will have to meet a worker or customer in their daily routine.
(And I don't know if I would call Russia and NK "emerging markets".)
