I feel you, soon time for me to upgrade from my iPhone 12 Mini, but all the current iPhones are so much larger. Actually went looking at the iPhone 16 today, and it’s way larger than I would like it to be :/
I kind of miss the days of the small iPhone 4
How is it that with newer more power efficient CPU:s we can no longer make small phones? It’s a contradiction

I glanced through it and it surely seems to have some points, but would need to reread both it and the Bluesky protocols to really say something educated about it 🙈
Personally I have gotten intrigued by Bluesky as it seems to be closer to the ideas of the IndieWeb than what Mastodon is
Main key difference between Bluesky and IndieWeb seems to be:
- did and cid identifiers vs http url identifiers
- json vs html

Och IP-adress som personuppgift är ett riktigt komplext monster – både att inte alla IP-adresser är det och att det är en essentiell del av internet, omöjligt att tillåta att någon surfar till en utan att IP-adressen delas – om vi inte skulle börja dela sajterna på distribuerat internet såsom IPFS, men då har vi istället problematiken från fildelningsdagarna, då är det de som seedar sidan som får veta att du fetchar

Gällande Bitly så stegade jag igenom alla tre stegen i en HTTP-klient som emulerar en browser, för att se vad som sätts etc i ett rent rum
Ser då ingen cookie, men jag ser en i min webbläsare, men tror den satts vid annat tillfälle
URL:er som enbart dirigerar om tillåts ju inte riktigt sätta så mycket cookies i åtminstone vissa webbläsare längre (Safari var väl först ut med det)

Vad jag kan se och läsa mig till så är allt de samlar in den metadata som finns i HTTP-anropet och den IP-adress som anropet görs med.
De returnerar ett 301 svar, så ingen HTML eller script eller så.
Alltså ingen ytterligare tracking än vad alla HTTP-anrop i princip loggar (gamla goa awstats gjorde ju tex det)

Så långt allt okej och berättigat intresse skulle jag säga.
Men:
De har Google Tag Manager på kampanjsidan, som försöker ladda in såväl Google Analytics som LinkedIn annonsgrejs.
Och de sätter cookies, utan att cookie-banner visats och accepterats.
Det är inte rätt gjort.

Jag tycker nog att allt det där är berättigat intresse – det som hade kunnat göras bättre är att inte använda amerikanska bolag, men finns giltiga DPA:s så ser jag inget problem med en tjänst som kollar om en QR-kod används, en som försöker öppna upp en URL i en app och annars ge fallback och ser ej heller något problem med en kampanjsida på en byrådomän

Så flödet verkar vara:
1. bit.ly/briscoop – troligen QR-kods-specifik tracking av klick
2. brisar.page.link/coop – länk som troligen ämnar att försöka öppna upp filtret direkt i Snapchat appen och annars skickar vidare
3. bris.frankfam.co – landningssida med knapp som länkar vidare till AR-filtret

Någon form a. URL-förkortning behövs väl för att QR-koden ska bli lättläst? Bitly är ju dock ett oinformerat val.
Med Firebase-loggningen, menar du att sajten är hostad på Firebase och att de då får IP-adressen? Eller när är det som den loggningen sker?
Och vem är ansvarig för en bitly länk som någon aktivt väljer att navigera till och som hittas på en mjölkpakets-reklam?
Är det mer än IP-adress och youtube-cookie som är problemet?

What’s needed:
1. Up to date software on your device
2. Using only trustworthy browser extensions
When browsing HTTPS sites a VPN shouldn’t even do much, if the HTTPS certificate tells you that it’s all safe and your software is up to date, then it is, the chain of trust is in the certificate system.
VPN also only helps if you use it to connect to a more trustworthy environment than your current one.
Adblockers are not focused on improving security. Don’t install random extensions.

Not sure if updates with these findings, but Wikipedia lists methane emissions from fossil fuels at roughly the same level as that from animal agriculture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methane_emissions
While plants capture CO2 from the atmosphere into hydrocarbons that releases the carbon back once we consume them – that’s only released as CO2 in the best case scenario, it can also be released as eg methane farts / burps and swamp gas.
Then the source is not fossil fuels.

Does sustainable open source means more professional maintainers or does it mean more paid time for maintenance?
I think the true revolution comes when every developer is encouraged and empowered to collaborate with the wider world.
We need the contribution of the masses, not the professionalisation of the few.

Will they lose the very character that gave open source projects the magic that they wield?

Conway's law applied to open source projects is an interesting exercise when they become professionalized:
They go from collaborative dog fooding that solves the needs of the individual contributors – the producers and consumers are one – “prosumers”
Instead they become projects that’s maintained for someone else – the prosumer and the dog fooding is replaced with customers, users and producers (some consumers donate, “customers”, others simply use it, “users”)
