World's timekeepers will vote to ditch 'leap second' this week https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2026-10-12/we-may-be-about-to-lose-the-leap-second-for-good/107207528

Finally, I had time to break free from Spotify’s tight grip. My main use was for podcasts, so I set up self-hosted solution — using @npub1rk6…hv4q to host everything needed for the YourPods app on my phone and laptop: https://asecretcompany.com/yourpods/

double-checked — it looks like he disabled federation for his posts, so I was wrong. @keithedwards@threads.net is not on the Fediverse anymore

fyi, he is on the Fediverse, but he uses Meta's Threads: @keithedwards@threads.net

Somehow nobody in my family considers kvass a Christmas drink 😞

As usual, the first day of Christmas is starting with decarbonated Coke from yesterday and rasols (kind of a salad where potatoes and sausage chopped in cubes are swimming together with canned green peas in mayonnaise). Then finally, I will have time just for myself, as the last few weeks were spent preparing for Christmas Eve.

Priekā! For us right now the #solstice is happening — to be more precise, at 17:03 EET. So from now on, our days will become longer. Like today, our day was 6 hours and 44 minutes, but the night will be 17 hours and 16 minutes. #IrAlus

With all the news from #Mozilla about Firefox’s future as possibly an AI browser, the sad situation is that there are essentially no alternatives. What options do I have as a user? Move to Vivaldi and take part in their losing battle over Manifest V3 with Google? Start using some Firefox fork that’s maintained by one person and doesn’t have a mobile version, even in the EU?
So, it looks like the only option is to disable all the AI functions in Firefox and then later see how things turn out.

If you’re on @npub1ekk…vy6m, I made a feed that follows #Eurovision and #ESC2025

I know it’s not a self-hosted open-source solution, but Kit offers 10,000 newsletter subscribers for free. Maybe this could work in this case? https://kit.com/pricing
fyi, if I remember correctly, @npub1jxl…ur50 is using it, and I assume he’s satisfied since I haven’t seen any complaints about it in my feed from him.

Ok, Matrix is a franchise, but that doesn’t change the point.

So. This is from one of my chats with friends.
Which film series is the cringiest?

2025-01-14 15:46:41 UTC

Folks! @npub1gq5…qcul is a nice alternative to Instagram. Plus, your friends can follow your account there from Mastodon, bridged Bluesky, or any other account on the Fediverse.
I suggest using https://pixey.org as your home server, as @npub1s20…twmm is doing a great job there.
Here’s the Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pixelfed
And here’s the iOS app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pixelfed/id1632519816

Nice, I just noticed that [@bsky.brid.gy](https://bsky.brid.gy/ ) is also working for [@threads](https://threads.net/@threads/ ) users. As an example, Bluesky users can see posts from [@0xjessel](https://www.threads.net/@0xjessel/ )

I think the best place to follow the U.S. elections is on Mastodon, because you can see posts from [@threads](https://threads.net/@threads/ ), @npub1nfl…nul3, and Nostr, and also get news updates from @npub13fk…z5hw.

or complain about Threads and how Meta is managing things there (nobody sees their posts and won’t follow them).
Instead of taking ownership of their work.

It's funny that journalists can't understand the Fediverse and how things work. Instead, they ramble around, looking for the next rake to step on. For example, they create accounts on BlueSky (heh, they complain that there are only a few users on Mastodon—sure, there are zillions on BlueSky 😄)…
